Seo won't say if site was submitted

Hi,

I have had an seo for the past 7 months who ended up taking my money with no return, gave no results, and won't return mails with info. regarding if and where my site was submitted to dmoz. Supposedly, it was submitted in july 2003, but I have no way of knowing. I took a shot at guessing where it was submitted, but was verbally lashed by another dmoz editor for not including the full link for it. Honestly, I don't know. Basically, I'm wondering if I should resubmit, or what you think I should do.

Why not just submit it yourself to the most appropriate category?

Find the single best category for the URl and then submit it once. Unless your former SEO did some pretty stupid things, that shouldn't cause too many problems.

Because everyone I know with websites has me freaked out about dmoz! I've heard all kinds of things like, "if you submit more than once you'll never get entered" and "don't bother the editors or they will not let you in". Basically, I'm scared of dmoz editors. No I'm not, I'm scared what I will do or say wrong to dmoz editors. If I give you guys my url, would you have a quick look at my site? All content is original, all links are reciprocal, and I already have many great rankings in google for outdoor furniture, cedar furniture etc.

My site actually falls in about 4 different dmoz categories. Does it matter which one I submit to if they are all relevant? Would I have a better chance in a category with less sites, but still completely relevant?

My site: http://www.thecedarstation.com

No need to be afraid of us.
You won't be punished if you submit your site a second time.
As long as you behave as a civilized human being you can say what you want. We will try to answer you in the best way we can.

It is impossible for us to look at the status of a site if we don't have a category. The only thing I can see that a suggestion of your site never has been handled by an editor until now. Sorry.

There is always only one (1) category that is the best for a site.
Your site has an online shopping option. So it should be listed somewhere in Shopping/.

My advice: just submit your site to dmoz yourself.

Those liars. Im so tired of seo companies.

Thanks for all your help. I'll submit soon, and I think have the right category. What if you guys think that it belongs somewhere else, will it be added there instead? I want to be exact when I submit, to have the best chances of entry.

I actually meant four different categories in the furniture section, but I just worded it wrong. Sorry.

Great, thanks.

One more thing and I will leave you guys alone. I've noticed alot of sites on dmoz describing thier site titles with words other than just thier url name. Is it legal by dmoz's standards to add a site title such as, "The Cedar Station - Outdoor Furniture", so people know what I sell? I'm sure this has been abused in the past, but this is what my site is, and I would simply like people to know.

The title of the site should be the real title of your site. We don't list descriptions in titles. That is in our editing guidelines. If you see a keyword stuffed title and want to report it go into the abuse forum - the hijack thread and someone will take a look at it eventually. Thanks!

That's allowed by the Looksmart style guide, but not in the ODP. Our style is that what you sell (insofar as it can't be deduced from the category the site is in) should be in the site description. And you should put it in the suggested site description when you submit.

See? We don't bite. (Well, not MOST of us, anyway!) Glad we could help.
