Does anybody know how to activate your signature in this forum? Do you have to have a certain post count before they get enabled?

Hi David E,

Only editors are allowed signatures on this forum. The signature system is disabled for members.

Sounds like a reasonable precaution. Otherwise some members would have a link farm in their Sig. :see-no-ev

Hey! My smilie is still here! :spock:

It would be cool to have signatures. They can limit it to one link. Perhaps one link can't do that much of harm. :D

As said before.
"Only editors are allowed a signature"

And as for links. You might have noticed that, except for the Quality Control Feedback threads, these are (almost) always removed by the forum adminis. So no links at all.

But it can. This forum is here to help others, not advertise your website. That's why non-Editor Sigs are disabled and most links are disallowed. Any link could get picked up by a spider bot and could increase your hits in the search engines.

Yes, what Spock said. There is never a reason for anobody to put a link in their post except for when it's related to quality control, and so moderators remove URLs from posts, or at least make sure the links don't work. It's a matter of self preservation, really. I have seen people in SEO forums recommending others to come to this forum and ask about something ODP related, and slip their site's URL into the post, thus posting not for information but for increased PR. We're not particularly keen on people using the forum for that, and so most of us will shoot unnecessary URLs on sight.

My first post here on the DMOZ forum. I agree I think no signatures would keep this forum nice and clean.
