My gut feeling says it's limited to accounts with editor status and above.

Exactly. And I've been chided for having (one of my) personal sites in my signature, which I no longer have.

I just joined this morning and this is one of the first questions I had. I wanted to post a quick note introducing myself, but didn't want it to include reference to my personal site unless that was acceptable. Didn't want to leave a bad taste in the Editor's mouths from the get-go. I'm more of an acquired taste. :)

We had members abusing the signatures. So we turned them off for anyone who wasn't an editor -- the fact that some members got decidedly cranky when we did that tells us that we made the right decision. If your (and that's a general "your") primary reason for being here is to have your URL seen in your signature, this is really not the place for you.
