Site gone - e-builds

Hi,

I have been wondering so long why my site is gone in the Open directory until a bird told me I could find the answer here. :)

{moz}I was submitted around (if not on) 03/06/203 (d/m/y), but I did get some difficulties with time outs and errors generated by dmoz (it was very slow though I have a broadband connection). So I had to try several times to get the result.

:(I was gone around 14/11/2003. I tried to re-enter my site, but without success.

:arrow_right:I'm almost sure it was in this category Top: Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Freelance: G but I am not quite sure, could be under the e from e-builds too. THough G for my name Goethals, Ruben was probably what was wanted by dmoz.

:arrow_right:My site: e-builds

:confused:Buy my knowledge, I have not done anything against the rules and yet. Could anyone tell me how to find out why ?

Thanks & cheers

Are you sure you were ever listed? I can see that it has been submitted several times and that duplicates have been removed, but not that it has actually been reviewed and listed in the ODP. Nor has it been rejected.

I'm in the process of loading the page with unreviewed sites for Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Freelance and all its subcategories to see if and where you are waiting (it wasn't in Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Freelance/G.) It's going to take a while for the page to load, though...

 Wow, you didn't waste time on this. I am amazed that you went into this so quickly and with results !! Thank you very much.
(And if I may state some subject irrelevant thoughts: Quite illogic that in a customer-business relation where one actually pays, when you ask for support you get smakked and when asking for support on a free service, you get your answer on the same day !!!!)

 Since it has been a long time (and I am not complaining since I am happy that the ODP is putting some human (as opposed to robotic) eye in it's indexes and that must take time) is this because certain categories need longer time to get listed than others or is the speed of getting listed a kind of "depends on several things" thing ?

 Sorry about the category mix up.

:) Thanks again, now I can sleep again :tree:

Just for the records and maybe for other people that read this post.

As to regard to be listed before, I guess that one of my first attempts (in the first mentioned category) was accepted after all (even I did get an error screen) since I am sure I got listed once (even if only for a short time) and that later on , after waiting a while for the DMOZ site to be less crowded or whatever the reason of that repeated error was, the submission (or change request; can't seem to remember) into that category where it is waiting for review now, is what got me out on the first ?
Does this make sense ?

Anything is possible, but it's highly doubtful. I checked again, and there is no indication you were ever listed. It does sometimes happen that a site gets listed prematurely [an editor for example, is trying to move the site to another category, and hits the wrong button], and then gets unreviewed. But in that case it would usually show in the logs.

And yes, some categories, including those for web designers do get a lot of suggested sites, and those categories tend to require more editorial work as a result of multiple submissions by aggressive marketers [not saying that you are one] submitting multiple variations of the same site under different letters. As a result in some case they may experience delays in getting listed.

since I am sure I got listed once
Were you possibly using a different URL before when you think that you were listed? Or are you maybe thinking of a different directory, like Yahoo! or something? Our logs don't show this URL ever being listed. The log is showing a history on this URL as it has moved around a bit, but it is not showing that it was actually ever published into the public pages anywhere.

Well, about having been listed, it doesn't matter for me that much since I saw it only once and I am happy to know that I am not punished or anything and that I will be in the list soon (I presume, :)).

As to what exactly happened when I saw my site (www.e-builds.com or www.e-builds.be -those are the only possible URL's, by the way-), whether it was listed or not, it could have been some mistake of mine or so but, please, don't waste your time on this. :smirk: I am already satisfied with the first answer I got.

But, hey, thanks again, guys & girls!!

Still not listed ... :-(

Hi,
 :(
Can anyone tell me whether I have a chance of being listed soon or will it require some more months or years ?
Is this a usual waiting time for this category or am I left behind ?

I know it is a crowded category, but I have waited over a year now.
Any way I could ask any of you guys to give it a go ?

Also: Has anyone an idea if it is .be or .com that would be registered ?

Thank you a lot !!!
Even more if one could finally submit it !!!!

No, no one can tell you that information. It depends a lot on when a volunteer editor decides to review the site. It could easily require some more months and years, yes.

It is very usual for this type of category, yes. a LOT of sites, a LOT of backlog and not a lot of editors who feel motivated to edit there.

We appreciate that you would like to see your site listed. So does every one of the other sites that awaits review in the ODP. There is no way to get preferential treatment, I'm sorry.

Based on comments here, it is more likely that the .COM would be.

Hope this clarifies.

Status ?

It has been almost over 1 year and a half now.
Is it possible to contact the editor of that particular directory ?

I think it's not fair that I see concurrents of mine and other sites being added on that directory while I know they haven't submitted their site earlier in time than me.

So, am I being punished (personally by the editor or by the DMOZ rules) after all, maybe because of my nagging here ?

Is my site still waiting for review in Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Dynamic_and_Multimedia/E/ ?

Really sighing over here :.( ,
Greetz & thanks for replying,

Some answers to yoru questions.

>Is it possible to contact the editor of that particular directory ?
Yes, but you very probably would not get any answers.
RZ is the place to contact editors.

>I think it's not fair that I see concurrents of mine and other sites being added on that directory while I know they haven't submitted their site earlier in time than me.
How do you know? Maybe they haven't been suggested at all.

>So, am I being punished (personally by the editor or by the DMOZ rules) after all, maybe because of my nagging here ?
Nope. Actions done on RZ will not influence your chances of being listed or the time it will take.

>Is my site still waiting for review in Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Dynamic_and_Multimedia/E/ ?
In April an editor has looked at your site and decided that this wasn't the most appropriate category and moved it to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/E/
I can't see any activities after this date. That doens't mean noone has looked at the site. It just means it hasn't been listed. But it also means it hasn't been rejected.

Hello again dear valued people,

I am not angry at you, but I am really FRUSTRATED, DOWN, SAD, DISAPPOINTED,...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGG.
I really am not kidding, but am about to cry soon!
Really sorry for this language, but Com'on, what's happening ? It has been 2 years, 2 years!! and I am still not listed.
I thought dmoz listing was fair!? Surely that is not true. Maybe not with intention, but unfair the way I feel it.

Anyway, to still keep my hopes up and believe that there is still a chance I will get listed -May I remind everyone that I followed every rule, requirement, etc...- I'll go on on this thread hoping someone will hear my distress call and possibly dó something.

>Is it possible to contact the editor of that particular directory ?Yes, but you very probably would not get any answers.
RZ is the place to contact editors.
How can I know which one is the one of my category ?

>I think it's not fair that I see concurrents of mine and other sites being added on that directory while I know they haven't submitted their site earlier in time than me.

I am sure that if one looks in some logs, one will see that (alot of?) later submissions than mine (03/06/2003!) are listed now in the same or old category.

I really wonder now:

- Am I still here ? http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/...Full_Service/E/
- Would I be a fool to resubmit my site ? I haven't done that to be not rejected to the last waiting position again. Another 2 years ? NO, thanks.
- Really taking 2 years for even this category ?
- Maybe I should become an editor myself just for the purpose of getting my own site there ?
- Any suggestions ?

Sigh, I am going to a dark corner and cry now...

There isn't such a thing as one editor for a category. That is the reason you can not contact that one editor. He/she doesn't exists. Longer answer is given in the FAQ.

As far as I can see: yes. I'm not allowed to look in detail to that category but our message system tells me it wasn't handled since the last status you got.

Yes, you would. :D

Trying to become an editor just to list your site won't work.
Suggestions: Keep on waiting. Nothing else you can do. Unless ofcourse do some usefull work for your company like marketing in other places. Remember DMOZ can never be of help in succesfully running you business.

The time since submittal is as a matter of fact not something that we take into consideration; ethically it is not something that we ought to take into consideration; practically it is not something that we can afford to take into consideration.
