 The following site!
http://members.aol.com/chazieux/gite.htm
has disappeared from the category
Top: World: Français: Régional: France: Régions: Auvergne: Haute-Loire: Voyages et tourisme: Hébergement
in which it was previously listed, with an entry something like:
Lou Coucaye: gîte dans la haute vallée de l'Allier, photos, information
Any explanation as to why it has disappeared?
thanks in advance. Replies in French or English welcomed!

Re: Site has disappeared

Further precision:
# Lou Coucaye - Rental house. Photos, prices, availability, booking information. was until recently listed in
http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/France/Regions/Auvergne/Haute-Loire/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/
this is certain, as I have just found a link to it in a search engine.
The French version of the page was also in the French language sister page, and is still in place in another search directory that takes its material from DMOZ
Both however have disappeared from the actual DMOZ
directory, and I would very much appreciate it if they could be restored!
Thanks for your help

Re: Site has disappeared

As editor uzs980 pointed out above, http://members.aol.com/chazieux/ is listed in the most appropriate French and English language categories. We have decided that this is the only Gitelink France listing we need, and won't be listing other pages or deeplinks.

If you feel we are listing the wrong page, you may submit an update url request from the category page for each one and we may, if we agree, replace one or both of those listings with the ones you prefer.

Re: Site has disappeared

Dear Br Mehlman
I understand what has happened.
DMOZ has mistakenly assumed that the site I am referring to and the one listed in the DMOZ directory are the same.
In fact, I have two distinct sites that (being completely amateur personal sites) happen to share the same web hosting location at AOL, (which is mirrored, on account of the frequency of problems with AOL) on Bravenet.

The site that is now listed, and which you refer to as
http://members.aol.com/chazieux/
is "Gitelink France", a free directory of holiday accommodation in France, containing links to some 70 independent websites, just 1 of which is mine.
This is really
http://members.aol.com/chazieux/gitelink.htm
Please pay a visit and you will see what I mean.

My other site, the one I am now enquiring about, and which used to be listed as indicated in my earlier post, is
"Gite Lou Coucaye"
This - like the 70 or so other properties listed in Gitelink France - is a website presenting one single rental property. Though it is housed on my AOL webspace, it has no more intrinsic relation to Gitelink France than any of the other properties - indeed, less than many of them as it does not carry the Gitelink logo at the top of the page as many others do.
This is the one about which I was enquiring, and which, to avoid confusion, I had directed to my mirror site with Bravenet.
http://gitelink.bravepages.com/chazieux/gite.htm
in English
and http://gitelink.bravepages.com/chazieux/gitefr.htm
for the French directory.

Unless you are going to say that none of the 70 or so independent rental properties listed in Gitelink France can be listed in DMOZ, since Gitelink France is listed, then there is no real reason to exclude mine, just because it happens to share my site.

In short, Gite Lou Coucaye is *not* Gitelink, any more than it is Mylinea, Nomade France, Camping.fr, or any of the other directories it is listed in, so I hope that it will be reinstated as soon as possible.
If any of this is not clear, please ask for clarification - but of course the best way to see what I mean is to visit the sites, and perhaps one or two other random links from Gitelink France.
thanks

Re: Site has disappeared

Gite Lou Coucaye looks like a lovely place to spend a vacation. I especially like the part about not having television nor telephone.

I won't be saying anything more about listing the site though. Doing so at this point would constitute debate, which is against the rules of this forum.

The status of your request is: Not listed, and not likely to be listed.

Re: Site has disappeared

A forum in which "debate" is against the rules sounds rather like a contradiction in terms. By definition, a forum is, and always has been (since Roman times) a place for debate .
I'm glad you like my gite, but feel very strongly that for DMOZ to exclude it is clearly discriminatory, unless you say that none of the 70 sites listed in Gitelink have the right to be listed independently in DMOZ, and will also be removed (I can supply a list of some that are, if you wish).
Most of the DMOZ local categories for vacation rentals in France are not at all full (in fact, they're rather short on sites), and I cannot see how removing a perfectly straight and informative site in any way confirms the DMOZ motto that "humans do it best".
I am not attempting to obtain multiple entries in DMOZ for the same site, simply two entries for two small sites that happen to be hosted in the same place. Surely that is not against the law, nor against the spirit of the law, of DMOZ?
Thanks for your help anyway
