My site, www.spellingcow.com, has been listed for at least a month and probably much longer. It appears in the appropriate category of Arts: Writers Resources: Software: Spelling and Grammar: Spell Checkers, and the listing conforms to all standards that I know of.

However, my site does not come up under and searches on DMOZ, including "www.spellingcow.com", "spellingcow.com", "spellingcow", or anything else I can think of. Any idea on what's up?

Thanks!

Sorry, I hunted around through some posts first, but figured "FAQ" was for how to use a forum as it is on most boards. Perhaps a "before you post" post is in order?

the FAQ said:
The ODP is a directory, not a search engine. The ODP search function is intended primarily as a convenient tool to find relevant categories on a particular topic, rather than sites. Its data is based on the title and description in ODP, not a crawl of the website. It does not have a very sophisticated keyword algorithm, does not perform any type of ranking analysis, and is not intended for use by the average surfer as a search engine.

The best way to search for a specific site with ODP search is to search on the URL without the www. For example, if you are looking for all occurrences of http://www.example.com, including individual pages (known as "deeplinks" in the ODP community), try searching for “example.com”. The search database usually lags behind the true state of the categories by at least a week, although sometimes it is longer.

Because of these factors, it is certainly not a reliable means of find out whether a particular site is listed in the ODP or not.

Highlighting is mine. I assume I must fall into the "sometimes it is longer" category.

Thanks!
