Our site is listed on DMOZ and can be found in a direct search for our company <URL specific info removed>

We were listed for about 3 years in Shopping: Food: Gifts: Baskets (90) I actually think we only got listed because someone here helped after 5 years of attempting despite being the top company in this category.

Our URL hasn't changed and our site hasn't been down and we're still the most prominent and relevant company in this category. Our products are unique and we make them ourselves. Our site is very useful and the highest quality in the category (subjective).

I was actually just wanting to update our listing because we stopped selling flowers, but added fruit.

I guess my question is how we got removed from the category and what should we do to get relisted in a category?

Our rudimentary search is buggy and sometimes shows websites that are no longer listed. The category itself is definitive.

If you think your website was removed in error, by all means re-suggest it and some editor will attrend to it. We can't oredict who or when that might be.

Thank you for your reply. I resubmitted our site to appear in the category it was removed. Very odd that we were removed.

Sites can be removed for several reasons
the most common are
- the site was not available and it was moved out of public view for an editor to check what is the cause [sometimes the only thing wrong is the site not letting our tools to access it and than the tool thinks that the site is gone]
- the site is not listable anymore , either the site has changed or our guidelines did change
- the site was listed by mistake (it never should have been listed according to our guidelines), an editor noticed the mistake and removed the listing

and please remember what is written on http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html

Please recognize that making the ODP a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the directory. That discretion extends (but is not limited) to what sites to include, where in the directory sites are placed, whether and when to include more than one link to a site, when deep linking is appropriate, and the content of the title and description of the site. In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion. You should not rely on any aspect of a site's inclusion in the directory. Please understand that an editor's exercise of discretion may not always treat all suggestions equally. You may not always agree with our choices, but we hope you recognize that we do our best to make fair and reasonable decisions.

Do you have a post I can read about this? Our site hasn't been down, hasn't changed and still is very qualified to be listed. The only thing I can think of is that we block a handful of countries outside of the USA.

No, there is no post to read about this.
Remember that DMOZ editors live all over the world. If you block visitors from certain countries you might have blocked some editors.
I do not say that this was the reason but it is something that does happen.

If you have Nigerian, Chinese or North Korean editors for gift basket companies in the USA, we're in trouble.

That's a pretty insulting thing to say don't you think? I urge you to withdraw it.

Some of our senior editors, who have universal permissions, come from some of those countries.

You should read our submission guidelines http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html in their entirety because you've acknowledged that you've done so on several occasions. The reason for your site's removal is embedded within them.

Please feel free to delete my previous post (I see no means to delete, edit). I did review the guidelines again and see that we follow them.

Perhaps...

I see no insult in your post. For me it was a normal reaction to a previous post.
But you do not have to worry. We are used to handle cases were website block crtain types of users.
And as Jimnoble already pointed out (he linked to the guidelines with reasons) in your case this was not the reason for removal.
I am sorry but that is all I can say about this situation. Asking more questions will not result in more answers.

I looked up the top 10 gift basket companies in the USA to see that we not the only ones being blocked. 6 of the top 10 companies are not listed at all and none are listed in the category listed above.

I appreciate your efforts and responses to my questions. I just wish your editors didn't have to review our site after it was previously approved and listed.

I suggest that resubmit your site to selected category may this helps you.

NO, do NOT suggest websites more than once. Doing so is against DMOZ guidelines.
The least that will happen is that a previous suggestion will be overwritten. If an editor would look at suggested websites based on date of suggestion you just managed to get to the bottom of that editors lists.
The worst that might happen is that we qualify several repeated suggestions as spam. And like you we do no like spam. It does not happen often but we could qualify such a person and all of his websites as unwanted (banned from ever being listed in DMOZ).

I submitted our site once to the category that we were listed in. I reviewed my posts from 5 years ago and noticed the same DMOZ editors are still volunteering... answering the same questions year after year. I still think we would be a good addition to DMOZ, but I have done all I can, so time to focus on something else. Thank you for answering my main question which was if I could suggest our site without violating any policies since we appear but not in any category.
