Site listed in DMOZ but now not in a category ???

My site is listed in DMOZ but seems to have fallen out of it's category, so it's not listed in any category.

If I do a search for my site name it shows up and shows it should be in category 'Regional: Europe: Health: Complementary and Alternative' but if I look in that category, it's not listed.

I am therefore unable to use the 'Update Listing' feature as it is no longer in a category.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to get it back in a category? Without it being in a category it can't get picked up by a search engine.

All help greatly appreciated,

Kind regards,

Tim

If it's the site in your profile it wouldn't be listed in Europe level - thats for multi country sites, and last time I checked Birmingham and London were in the same country.

I have not looked at the site past the contact details.

Search currently lags the live directory by around 3 months (thanks to the crash).

Without it being in a category it can't get picked up by a search engine.
If you mean the DMOZ search box (which at best can be described as weak) true, if you mean a normal search engine, thats not the case at all.

Hi gimmster,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

How do I get it moved to 'Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Health: Complementary and Alternative: Hypnotherapy' which would be the most appropriate category?

I agree that wasn't the correct category. Was submitted by SEO company some time ago :-(

Regards,

Tim

This extract from our submission guidelines might or might not be relevant here.
Please recognize that making the ODP a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the directory. That discretion extends (but is not limited) to what sites to include, where in the directory sites are placed, whether and when to include more than one link to a site, when deep linking is appropriate, and the content of the title and description of the site. In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion.

If it's a different website to the one that was originally listed, suggest it again, just the once, to an appropriate category.

Hi Jim,

I'm aware of that, but the site IS still listed, it's just fallen out of that category.

All I'm after is some advise how I get it into the correct category as the 'Update listing' fucntion is category specific and doesn't find the site if it's no longer in a category.

I am only trying to tidy things up and get it where it should be, so any suggestions or assistance is greatly apprciated.

For us listed essentially means showing up on the ODP category page. The ODP search function uses a snap-shot of sites that were listed at some fixed point in the past -- so showing up the the search doesn't necessarily mean that a site is listed now. Usually the search snapshot is updated once a week, but due to the recent server problems it's currently using data from October 2006.

So what do you suggest? Re-submitting?

If that is the case would an editor not do a search for the domain and see it is appears to already be listed (as it appears to be in the Europe category, it's only when you actually look in the category you see it's not there.)

Thanks,

Tim

If an editor were doing research preparatory to considering whether a site should be listed, yes, that is one of the things that might be done -- if, that is, in the editor's judgment that information was needed to make that decision. (Sometimes an editor might think that wasn't needed, sometimes an editor might think that wasn't enough and more careful detective work WAS needed.)

Thanks for that, I've learned a lot here.

But what do you suggest I do to get the site back in the right category?

Should I resubmit? Or is there some way it can just be categorised?

Many thanks,

Tim

You must have missed item 4 where I said
If it's a different website to the one that was originally listed, suggest it again, just the once, to an appropriate category.
We're quite capable of checking out domain name histories and comparing what a website looked like over the years with what it is today you know :D.
