After being listed in this category for several years, my site has disappeared. Is this the correct forum to get some assistance on this issue?

With respect, I do not believe the quoted thread answers the above question

I am experiencing a similar issue. We have been a market leader in our area for over 40 years, our site has experienced no significant downtime, was entirely relevant to it's category, and it has recently disappeared from DMOZ.

The thread quoted above seems to cover sites which did not meet the requirements for inclusion in the first place. Is there genuinely no recourse for sites which have been removed unfairly or accidentally (or acceptance that these are a possibility)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've deleted your other post -- please don't use multiple threads for the same query. Thanks.

It is possible for listed sites to be unfairly removed. It almost never happens, but it is possible.

If you genuinely believe that there has been editorial abuse involved, you can use the abuse report form, here: http://report-abuse.dmoz.org/ .

Hi Nea.

Thanks for the response. I certainly don't want to suggest any impropriety on the part of an editor. Without discussing the site specifically (which I understand is verboten), we are one of the leaders in our area, we were listed in our most appropriate section, and now we aren't. I genuinely can't think of a legitimate reason why our site would be removed (the 'no specifics' rule makes this difficult to explain, but it really would equate to McDonalds being removed from Business: Hospitality: Restaurant Chains: Burgers).

I suppose what I'm asking is; is there no way to contact the editor of a particular area to at least make an enquiry into the possible reasons for removal? Reporting an abuse seems excessive, but doing nothing (or waiting an inderminate amount of time for resubmission) is not acceptable.

Is there really no middle ground?

It's possible the listing is simply being moved to a more accurate category - if there is a named editor in the original category it is possible to send a message, to which some may or may not answer... (for example, I don't).
Your best bet is simply to re-suggest the site once in the correct category... (which may or may not be the one in which it was listed). :)

It can be an exercise in futility.

First and formost, few editors will even acknowledge receipt of an e-mail form someone asking about a site. That is self preservation on the part of the editor.

Second, there are more than 200 editors who can (and do) edit in any part of the directory, so there is nothing to say that the named editor performed the edit or action that has you concerned.

No one can stop you from writing, but I really don't want you to be surprised or angered if you hear absolutely nothing. That should be your expectation.

Site removal reporting and procedures

I am of the view that at least one could be given attention as to why his/her site was removed or have a chance to report so as to let him/her fel treated fairly as one could think that there was something wrong, conflict of interest, or competition. Also to bear in mind that one site takes time to be listed so it would be longto be re-registred and also can be termed as duplicate so please this should be taken into consideration.
Thanks

I understand your concern but, unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that we do not give information about specific sites here.
