Hello,

I submitted the following site:
http://www.maikaidesigns.com

To the following category:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Hawaii/Business_and_Economy/Internet/

Date submitted:
12/14/02

I wrote a friendly professional email to the editor stephen000 2 days ago asking about the status. I was just reviewing the last update and noticed that the entire category was not updated since June 17, 2002. Should I await a response from stephen000 or is it okay to ask here on status? I guess I kind of already am asking for status . Thanks!

Your site is in the queue, together with about 10 other sites. It's always OK to ask for a status here, provided you respect the delays (as you did).

Don't expect a reply from editors if you contact them. They'll read your feedback and act if appropriate, provided they're active.

Thanks for the heads up. Should I just sit tight for another couple of weeks then and check back? I guess I'm not sure if the editor for this category is active or not, and maybe that's the real question. If that spot does open up, I think I'll try and apply for editor status, although maybe that would seem to be a conflict of interest since my own category is there. Not sure about the rules regarding that kind of stuff. Nice to know this forum is here though.

No need to wait - the wonderful state of Hawaii would love to have another editor on board now! Editors are allowed to edit categories in which they have a site, as long as they follow the guidelines and treat all sites equally (do not unfairly promote theirs, or demote competitors). However, I would suggest applying to a smaller locality (20-50ish sites) without any (or many) subcats to get started. It is just plain easier to learn how to edit in Regional when you start with a locality. Once you've tamed your first category, you can apply to edit more categories, and eventually that particular one.

Be sure to disclose your affiliation to that site on your application, find 3 good URLs and describe them well, and you'll be fine.

Okay thanks for all the replies! I will mark down today and revisit this in a month
Will also see if I can apply to a smaller locality. I've applied before and got turned away (was applying to too large of a category initially). Thank you for your time.
