Hello,
I have a Buddhism website which I have added to the directory, <url removed> it is by an English monk Bhikkhu Pesala who has worked very hard to translate a lot of interesting books and articles on Buddhism from Pali to English.

Cheers

You've probably noticed from your other posts that we prefer people don't post their URLs here. It'd be great if you wouldn't do that any more.

Thank you for suggesting your site. A volunteer editor will eventually review it for possible inclusion in the directory.

We have, over the years, come closer to a zero-tolerance policy because any policy we set is so badly abused. Three years ago we probably wouldn't have clipped the URL ... well, three years ago we were giving status reports.

The site, as you describe it, sounds like a potentially unique archive, and a labor of love. Would your friend perhaps consider expanding his amateur efforts to editing a Buddhism category?

I hope you all are also making plans to handle the continuity -- that is, if you move on to other projects, please make sure this material is contributed to some sympathetic archive rather than lost. Project Gutenberg would almost surely take it (given a copyright license), but I'll bet there are some Buddhist websites with organizational continuity also.)

Hello,
I will suggest to him if he would consider aiding towards the DMOZ archive by editing the Buddhist category. How would he go on to register if he agrees?

At the present I am providing the hosting of the site and will try to ensure that the work is not lost, on the site, users have the ability to actually download the entire site, so in this way it will 'always' be there. I will look into Project Gutenberg.

Take care when you allow others to download your site. I've seen it happen that the downloader then "preserves" the material by uploading it to his own site. An author who doesn't mind sharing his work may find he has lost control of his creation. The non-author, for example, may decide to "improve" the text to be other than what the author intended.

We in the ODP community can't always identify the "true" source of the copied material and may not even be aware that it is a copy. Search engines are even less likely to find the version of a document as intended by the author.
