Hi,

Thank you for all the hard work you editors put in to the directory.

The category I submitted our site too does not have an editor so I presume that to find out if our site is in a queue to be listed I presume that I need to use the web form to contact the editor a few trees back. However I do seem to be getting an error when trying to submit the form. I have search the forum and seen that the email is possibly getting through, is there anyway of finding out?

Can I also ask if I am supposed to get an email confirmation that our site has been submitted? I did not receive a confirmation thats why I am asking.

If you need to know the category I submitted to it is below:

Many thanks in advance.

I am not asking for an update on my site mearly if I should have received a confirmation email of submission and also why the form is not working to email an editor.

Is an editor able to check if my site is in the pool to be reviewed or if it was lost in the ether.

You got a thank you screen at the end of the transaction. Also sending an email would be a waste of electricity, so we don't.

Defiitely not. Please see the Announcement thread Discontinuation of site status checks right at the top of this forum.

Technicaly an editor is able to do so. But we have decided not to provide such a service.

Suggestions do not get lost in the ether.
After you have seen the confirmation screen you may be sure we received the suggestion. It will stay in the pool until we either list the website or until we reject the suggestion.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

I just wanted to confirm if I was supposed to have received an email confirmation so that has cleared that up now.

Did you know the email an editor form on the site is erroring at all? Perhaps this is the wrong section to discuss but just wanted to let you know.

Kind regards

James

Yes we know. It is a problem that occurs on and off. Technical staff is aware.

I can confirm that emails are delivered to the editor even when this error is encountered. (I just tried it myself)

We have intermittent email issues - I think to do with forwarding messages from one server to another. When an error is reported, the message is usually merely delayed. Because of folks retrying, it's not unusual to receive several identical ones.

AOL's ops staff (who run the servers) are aware

Thanks once again.

Keep up the good work you editors and moderators do. I am sure it is an uphill struggle.

Please apologise to chillysnow for the extra emails.

There is a company that appears three times, these are the cats:

Is it possible: Yes, you found a website that is lsited 3 times so it must be possible ;)
Is it allowed: Yes, editors can always decide to list a website more than once. And in some cases people are allowed to suggest a website more than once.

Obviously. ;)
But it is a decision made by editors, based on the content of the site and the nature of the categories. For example, editors are encouraged to list sites about "bricks and mortar" businesses in both Business/ and Regional/ categories.

However, the advice for non-editors is always to suggest sites to the single most appropriate category. What happens after that (and when) depends on the volunteer editors and the Editing Guidelines of the directory. :)

[Oops, took too long. What pvgool said!]

We often list websites in topical categories and in their localities if they offer local services.

Because UK is a collection of 4 countries it is treated as a special case which is why UK level is partially organised topically. The example you cite is legitimate.

For more detail on the UK level, visit http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/ and click on its FAQ link at the right. It includes Some UK sites may therefore, quite correctly, be listed three times.

Good, thanks for all your comments everyone.

I will just sit and wait now and keep checking if we have been listed.
