If you read the email again, I think you'll find it includes this sentence.
Although we would like you to join us as a volunteer editor, you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor.
The category is too large for you.

Surely if it is "too large", then more people are needed to keep it maintained. This seems to be a contradictory statement to my way of thinking.

If I'm not qualified to edit this category then so be it. I'm more concerned about getting my site listed. Are you able to help in this regard?

We wouldn't want an inexperienced editor, making bad edits in a large category. If someone made a bunch of inexperienced edits causing a big mess, that would defeat the purpose-IMO by causing someone else to clean it up. Starting small is always best, learning the ropes in a small area, then if a newbie made some mistakes, they could be easily fixed-smaller the category=smaller chance for a big mess. It is a good thing there is a difference in thinking.

Never a good idea to try and become an editor to just list your site.

No, sorry. Nothing posted or done in this forum will effect or expedite a listing in the directory.
