Hello everyone, I submitted my site http://www.fishpuertovallarta.com about a month ago and it is still not listed. Does it take longer than this? How do I know when to resubmit my site as I do not want to get introuble for submitting it more than once. Please advise?
Thanks

Yes, it often takes longer than that.

The submittal policy tells you everything there ever is to know about when to resubmit (after a few weeks, IIRC) and how often to resubmit (once). That advice is difficult or impossible to improve on.

Might also be worth noting that no site is guaranteed a listing.

Once the site is suggested, it will await a volunteer editor to perform a review. Only after an editor confirms it is listable within the guidelines and offers something uniquely beneficial to the directory will it be listed.

Just wanted to make sure there was no confusion over that issue.

Many sites wait more than three years. The timeline is open ended because submissions are but one of the many sources we use for identifying possible sites to lsit.

Thats cool. I personally know of a couple of sites that should be listed in the category that I applied. You can add this forum as another resource ;)

http://www.corpusfishing.com/
(the best fishing forum for our neck of the woods) The homepage isnt that good but the forum is great.

http://www.coastalwaterguideservice.com/
(Larry is great, honest guide)

http://www.corpus-christi-fishing.com/
(Another good guide in our area... granted his titled shouldnt be Corpus Christi Fishing)

Now those sites might not be the best looking websites but they are similar to the ones already listed. Its just not cool that its been 19 months with no changes.

Its also not cool that you guys listed directories (which charge money to advertise) titles stuffed full of keywords. Now if they didnt charge to list guides than it would be cool. A great organization of guides in texas is the Coastal Bends Guides Association. Dmoz is crazy because a guide that is not licensed or insured can pay to advertise on one of the directories already listed (in dmoz) and pass as a legitimate guide. The guides association makes sure your legite. Their website can be found here. www.cbga.org
That website should be placed here.

http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_...Texas/Recreation_and_Sports/Outdoors/Fishing/

If it was me editing the category I would strip all those keywords off the directories that charge money for advertising and list the CBGA as "Texas Fishing Guides"

The one question I want to ask is "Who is editing the category?" Is is a competitior? Is it a webmaster of one of those directories? A great person to edit the Texas category would be Steve Purcell the webmaster of the CBGA. He is a fair guy and wouldnt let the category go to neglect like it has. Now this is coming from a competitor. Look at how fair he is in listing the guides on www.cbga.org.

Best Regards

Trey

And you'd be wrong because the site is called Coastal Bend Guides Association. :D

He's more than welcome to apply but we're not going to just sign him up as an editor because someone thinks he'd do a good job. As for who's editing the category, if there's a listed editor there, you'll see their name at the bottom of the category. Otherwise, anyone listed in an upper level category to that one as well as all editalls and meta editors can edit there and we don't give out specific information about editors.

Thats cool with it being Coastal Bends Guide Association. Just change the others from Texas Fishing Guides to "yada yada Marketing" :)

I'd agree that a strong Texas Fishing category is good for everyone - folks that live in Texas and like to fish, guides and suppliers, people looking for a destination for a fishing vacation, etc. (well, I guess it's not good for the fishes.) I think it would be cool if you talked ODP up in that community. There's bound to be someone who has the passion for fishing, and who also has (or can learn) the skills an editor needs.

Fishing categories can be a little tough to edit, because there are those low-content, low-quality sites out there. But basically you're looking at sites for hardworking folks who like to fish, and it's definitely satisfying when you've built a category that's a thorough balance directory of the topic.

Thanks!

(Btw, most fishing sites are listed in the locality, not at the state level. Click on the salt or fresh water categories and you'll see links to them.)
