My site was apparently de-listed. It was on DMOZ about a month ago. Then I received an email last week from "megrisoft" in India telling me that my site, which was submitted on September 1, 2006, has been rejected from open directory project India. I did not sumbit this to India and don't know how it was submitted.

Here is the message without my url:

Your site http://www.xxxxxx.xxxx that was submitted on 1-Sep-2006 has not been approved for
any of following reason.

1. Your site content do not belong to India
2. It is doorway site
3. It may have adult contents

# 1 is undoubtedly correct.

So after receiving this I looked for my site on DMOZ.org and it no longer exists!

I do not know if they are related or this is coincidence, but I think there is a relationship.

Any thoughts on how this could have happened and any suggestions on remediation would be greate! I don't care about India but I do care about the U.S.

Thank you,
danarich

We don't allow discussion of individual sites here, so thanks for not including the URL in your post. We would also not want you to name any editors suspected of abuse / strange actions, so you might want to remove the name from your post -- though note that the name you gave is not one of an ODP editor.

As to what's happened, it does sound a bit strange. I can only imagine that someone else suggested your site to an India category, and the email you got was from the editor who declined it. (Alternatively the email could just be a hoax -- though to what end I'm not sure.) As for a separate listing disappearing, it could be conincidence, or it could be that it's still there and you just missed it. (The ODP search function is a bit odd -- you need to leave off the "http://www." and just search for the bare domain name for it to work.)

I'm a bit curious about this, so if you're certian the site was listed and isn't now, send me a PM (using the link from my profile page here) with the site URL, category it was listed in, the full text of the email you recieved, and the email address of the sender.

There is no editor with the name megrisoft. "open directory project india" appears to be a site by a company called Megrisoft that is using ODP data. So, the email that you got is completely unrelated to any listing you might have in the real Open Directory Project.
