Greetings,

It has been 6 months since my last inquiry. Our club would respectfully request that our club information that was previously added to the mount vernon link #2 below (Society) be cut and pasted to #1 below under the (washington) tab.

1.http://dmoz.org/Society/Organizatio.../United_States/

2.http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...M/Mount_Vernon/

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give in placing our Kiwanis Club http://www.skagitmountvernonkiwanis.org/ on site #1 above(washington).

Thank You, :)

Ken

Don't make such requests in the forum, it's very inefficient for that purpose (and would ruin its fitness for any other purpose either.)

DO suggest the site in the appropriate category. This second submittal would NOT be spam; KC sites ought to be (and sometimes are) double-listed.

<added>Let me give the usual spiel: KC is all about community service, right? And KC's cooperate across the country (or world) in public service activites? Why is it that nobody from that public-spirited community has stepped forward to promote the clubs online (by public service editing on the ODP)?

An hour or three a week would make a world of difference in the KC's online presence. I could just imagine someone starting with his state KC category, adding sites directly there and copying them to the respective locality categories for other editors to find. Then taking up the Society category of his own community or nearby ones, to find new charities and organizations before their webmasters even realize there is an ODP to submit to. Then ... whatever.

Somewhere, I'm sure there's a local KC webmaster who would do this for the community. Could you use your contacts to help find him for us? And if you look first in your own mirror, that would be OK with me.

site submission status

If I agreed to take on what you suggested (entering KC's) how would one proceed? Is there training necessary? I would have responded to your requests however I totally missed the first on 6 months back.

Let me know a bit more and I will consider giving it a try.

thanks,

Ken :)

If you go to the page listed above and click on the link at the top of the page "become an editor" or the bottom of the page "volunteer" to edit this category - that is the first step. This will bring up an application form. Fill the application out honestly and completely, providing three sites that would fit in this category (one of which would be your club). Be sure to provide guideline compliant titles and descriptions - the guidelines for describing sites are located here: http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html

If you are accepted as an editor of this category - build it up. Then you can apply for additional categories (perhaps eventually capturing all the kiwanis clubs available online) - or building other categories of interest.
