It seems like my website is always overlooked for the directory. Am I not submitting it in the correct directory?? My site was listed before, but for some reason it was dropped from the list without any notice to me. Now that I have moved the site to a new address I've tried to re-submit it over the past year or two but I never hear anything about it and it never gets listed.

We rarely, if ever, notify anyone of any changes in the status of their suggestion and, unfortunately for you, we stopped giving status checks here in this forum on May 21.

But why was my site taken away from the list in the first place? There was nothing vulgar, rude, offensive, pornagraphic, nothing bad at all. It's a great site and it was really growoing until it was taken off the list and I have never been told why it was taken off.

There could be any number of reasons why, none of them malicious.

It may have been inaccessible for a time. Editors routinely take such sites out of the directory to review later.

It may have been determined that another category is actually a better fit and was moved there. However, if the moving editor doesn't have permission to edit the destination category, the moved listing will be added to the unreviewed pile.

It may have been determined to no longer adhere to the guidelines for listing. The guidelines have evolved over time and what was once listable is no longer.

Those are only some of the reasons.

There are many reasons why a listing may be removed - some are permanent, some are temporary. Here is a general list:

Permanent reasons:
* The site's contents have changed and an editor decided that it was no longer listable according to the guidelines.
* The editor that listed the site in the first place was in error - the site did not meet the ODP guidelines for listings in the first place.

Temporary reasons:
* An editor or one of our automated checks identified the site as not reachable
* The site is in the process of being moved from one category to another

In any case, no notification is sent to anybody of any of these actions - the ODP is not a listing service for site owners.

Site reviews of URL suggestions in some areas of the directory take a long, long time - sometimes several years. Editor activity in some areas of the directory is at a higher level than in others.

Okay. Well I really hope that I can get back listed in the directory. It would really really really help my site out a lot like it did before. Thank you all for your help.
