On Sunday, May 23rd I applied as a volunteer for http://dmoz.org/Arts/Television/Commercials/ because I noticed at the bottom there was a need for an editor for that category.

(1) After filling out the fields Explain your interest in the subject of the category for which* you are applying to edit: and

(2) Please provide 2 or 3 URLs, that you would add to this category along with titles and descriptions for each.

(1a) I explained my experience in the commercial field, with my experience of other companies that I have an association with to show my knowledge of this area.

(2a) I listed two sites from South Africa that I am familiar with as I have showcased their work and 1 site from the USA.

Now the bear bite> Rejected< because I may be in slanted in advocating my own site, and I listed 2 non USA sites, and all the blab that went with the rejection.

(1c)A proposal to all, is to eliminate question one all together if you don't want someone to show their passion / experience for the subject.

(2c) State USA Sites Only.

If there is any doubt the reviewer should write an email for further explanation.

One would think that experience and passion for the subject would be good.

Basically a monkey can do the editing with no passion and experience.

Not made here, not angry, just thought it would be nice to help as I can get a lot of websites in the U.S. in the TV Commercial field to be listed as I have the contacts.

I haven't seen your application so I'm not really sure that I'm understanding what you're saying here about why your application was rejected. I can't imagine that the application was rejected because you listed web sites from South Africa. There is nothing U.S. specific about that category. What did the e-mail say exactly?

Did you submit sites that are appropriate to that category? Did you read the description about that category? It's actually pretty specific - "Primarily sites about television commercials, advertising characters from television commercials, fan sites for specific TV campaigns, and collections of audio / video commercial clips." If you didn't submit sites that matched that criteria, then the application would be denied.

You might want to read through the information in our [thread=1289]FAQ and General Advice thread[/thread] if you are going to apply again. Hope that helps a bit :)

Ditto what donaldb said. In addition, we certainly do want to know your interest and passion about a particular subject. It's certainly not against the rules to have your own site...

Having said that, that's about all I can say, since I didn't see your application.

Actually, what you got was the default rejection note indicating that one or more of the notes apply to your application. Using non-USA sites had nothing to do with the rejection, as other editors have noted here. As donaldb noted, the category description is very clear and the best way to get rejected for the category is to suggest sites that don't belong there.

I agree, probably was a rejection note.

So now what, that's it.

But those site belong there (as there was no specific guide lines) they have a lot to do with TV commercials.

They make them, they review them, and they showcase them.

http://www.pistoleros.co.za/ _a commercial production house

http://www.biz-community.com/196/12.html _ Daily Ad Industry News deals with commercials etc.

http://internetvideomag.com/watchvideos.htm _ deals with sites that offer TV commercials on the net and general video sites.

Now if the category is specific to only showcasing TV commercials, then its a no brainer as there are hundreds of national and global studios that make their own TV commercials.

Give me the verbal tools and guidelines that fall into the category and I will resubmit 3 URL's according to the specs.

But it's a no biggie here, as I can use my free time for something else. Its up to whoever wants to review the application again, someone is better than no one, but hey, its not my bat and ball, life goes on.

Thanks,
