I would like a spelling error fixed on my site description. How long before that will happen? The same amount of time as an editor review type situtation. The error shows up on all kinds of search engines. Please let me know something...

Do an update for the site from the listed category. Updates usually [but not always 100%] get processed much faster.

It has been fixed
Good for you kandle, but I wonder how some others may feel about similar problems in some of their sites. For example, there are 97 (or is it only 70?) listings that include "accomodation". I assume kokopeli will want to fix all of these right away also.

Thank you. I feel much better now. Have a good night whatever your accomodation.

Thanks, it was 70, I just fixed two of them so now it's 68, but allow a week of so for search to catch up with the changes.

It also turns out there are 53 category descriptions that have same spelling error. But I can't fix them.

the spelling error you spoke of could benefit you though. that is probably what i would search for and google would suggest the correct spelling. in google that shows 4 million hits while spelled correct has 29 millions pages. spelling errors aren't always that bad. there was an extra s and the end of services. That just makes me look stupid. you situtation may not ne right but i have heard of misspelling words on sites on purpose to get better search results.

Yes, I accidently mispelled a word on a site, and found I was getting hits from it being misspelled in Google searches. So I fixed the page to have both spellings. :)

I should mention, the correction was not made as a result of this thread. I actually came here and recognized this. A group of senior editors has been working to catch up updates that have been submitted. It was a fluke that I saw this thread and recognized the topic. The correction had been made before I ever read or posted in this thread. :2cents:

We do have tools that search for common misspellings of specific words in the directory, which also have a search for random misspellings function.

Thanks for the heads up re: accomodation

Andy :)

EDIT: I think they're all done. There were a few that were only in the url, which obviously I can't get rid of or the site won't load, and some where the official name of the company appears to contain the typo - which I've left.

Fair enough, but it was just not obvious to the casual observer from earlier posts that the squeaky wheel was not getting the grease. I've read in these very fora that forum editors should not be doing the work of regular editors in making updates.

I am glad to see that andysands, bobrat and other senior editors are willing to make corrections when issues are brought to their attention. Related to this,

Have these tools been active for very long? I believe quite a number of other very common misspellings are present in the directory that one would have thought would not be there given the availability of this tool.

Anyway, thank you for the clarifications, and I appreciate your prompt attention to the issue I raised here.

The tool isn't fully automatic -- editors have to specify the terms to check, and decide when to run it.

So -- name the mispellings, please, please. Quality control issues often do (and, IMO, should) get quick responses, however the editors find out about them.
