What I'm seeing is that you submitted to Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/0 which was wrong (the 0 part at least) so the editor reviewing it moved it to Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers for futher classification. Someone will have to sort it more specifically from there. Unfortunately, that's a very large queue.

In general, web design is a busy area of the directory and when you submit there you must plan to have patience.

Dear Dalguard,

thank you for your prompt response. I would like to add something to your reply. I fully understand that there are busy sections within a search engine and do realize that editors work voluntarily. I still think that a good search engine is a two sided sword:
1. Content needs to be filtered correctly
2. Submissions need to be worked of quickly to offer crisp new content to users

If, as you say web design is such a busy section and editors cannot keep up, then I must say, I am quite astonished that the editor of the section I wanted to submit to edits so many sections:

Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: A (390)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: C (475)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: U (93)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Dynamic and Multimedia: A (89)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Dynamic and Multimedia: C (45)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Dynamic and Multimedia: U (39)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Freelance: A (80)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Freelance: C (122)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Freelance: U (13)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Full Service: A (365)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Full Service: C (345)
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Full Service: U (105)
Games: Video Games: Roleplaying: Massive Multiplayer Online: Ultima Online Series: Ultima Online (299)
Shopping: Health: Alternative: Flower Essences (101)
Shopping: Home and Garden: Accessories (2,221)

Does that mean you cannot find enough editors for various sections, or how must one interpret the above?

Kind regards, P.

Several reasons:

1) If he edits letter "A" in one branch, it is quite usefull if he edits letter "A" in the other branches, too. Otherwise he would move entries which he believes are submitted to the wrong category to the right place without being able to puiblish them.

2) Would it be more understandable to you if he was listed in Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers ? That would reduce the number of entries and enable him to edit all subcategories <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

3) And for the other topics he edits in: You need something to relax from editing in categories wiuth a lot of spam and bad submissions. Some time ago I requested a Humour-category additional to the ones I edited back then, giving as a reason that I need something to relax from my current projects.

4) If you want to know why he edits in exactly the places he does: He volunteered to do so. So you ould have to ask himself.

(And of course there are _never_ enough editors in the ODP...)

&gt;I am quite astonished that the editor of the section I wanted to submit to edits so many sections:

_I'm_ quite astonished that anyone _ever_ wants to edit any of the commercial-web-development sections. Talk about the cobbler's children having no shoes...hardly any of _these_ even wear pants, and some are naked up to the eyebrows.

But, hey, he volunteered, and someone figured he could be trusted, and better him than me, and that's an end of it. The ODP wouldn't get anywhere if we only let editors do what interests _me_.

There are any number of reasons why an editor would seem to take on what seems like too much work. But so long as they're doing good work on _any_ of it, and they're finding something they can derive pride or enjoyment from, then the ODP is better off with them than without them.

Managers may want to work with slaves; marketroids may want to deal with cattle; but neither one of them make good editors. So we make do with volunteers. They're cheaper to feed than slaves and push the millstone harder than cattle do, but you gotta let them pick their own millstone.

http://www.a1design.net/ was not classified as spam. Your submission of January 22nd to Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Full Service: 0 that was moved to Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers in February was classified to Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Basic Service: A in March. And now it's waiting for review there - along with hundreds of other sites, which may take a while. This is an area of the directory with backlogs and a lack of volunteer editors.

Note that you may also submit to Regional: Africa: South Africa: Business and Economy: Internet: Web Design and Development which isn't backlogged at all. These two listings would be independent, so submitting also the the Regional category wouldn't affect your chances in the Computers category.

Yours,
Robert
