OK I waited!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

OK, I've waited the month! Please can I now have an update for the submissions?

Jim, with regard to your note about DMOZ listings... You will know more than anyone how DMOZ has exploded in recent years, and how important it is now for a good listing on search engines. If our competitors have got DMOZ listings, then our business is at a competitive disadvantage without a listing. This is why it's so important to us. We started our company as we felt that other 'Portfolio' agencies weren't giving a good deal to the artists they represented - and in fact were usually ripping them off, and we wanted to be an agency run by the artists giving a better deal to the people who are actually doing the work. Unfortunately at the moment these 'big' agencies seem to have complete 'net domination.

Whooops, sorry, I'll get off my soap-box now!

Thanks for your ear.
Cheers
Matt

Apologies for letting your inquiry go unanswered - it's nothing personal, just a result of too many questions and too few people answering them.

The submission to Dorking was declined, I'm afraid. Your site is waiting for review in http://dmoz.org/Arts/Illustration/Stock_and_Clip_Art/ ; the site suggestion in Arts/Illustration/Representatives was removed as a duplicate of that one. Thank you! {moz}

Hi,

Hey no problem about delay due to lack of moderators - although I did volunteer for DMOZ but wasn't needed apparently!

I do have a couple of questions though, and if you can help I'd really appreciate it...

Well, first of all, why would I get refused for entry into Dorking??? It's a tiny category and my competitors list on their own 'local' categories? Could I have offended the Editor by also once applying to be Editor in that category?

And my competitors list their URL in different categories too, so why would one of my submissions be deleted, if other sites have duplicate listings? For instance www.illustration-web.com has listings in 3 or 4 categories - to the same site.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Matt

Nah, I'm not interested in making it harder for anyone else - even if it is my biggest competitor!

Will keep in mind for when I get desperate though ;)

Does this mean, then, that my local submission has been refused as it was considered a duplicate?

Actually, a valid question here...

Also, I would have thopught that my submission to the two categories,

http://dmoz.org/Arts/Illustration/Representatives/
and
http://dmoz.org/Arts/Illustration/Stock_and_Clip_Art/

would both be acceptable, as these are the two different sides of our business. Part of our business concentrates on Stock Images, but the core of our business is in representing our Illustrators and Photographers as freelancers.

So really, we should be in both, according to DMOZ Submission Guidelines... or have I misunderstood?
