I am shaking in my boots, cause I'm sure I submitted my site all wrong. I'm new here, but plan to stay a while. It takes me time to learn systems, but I got it now (hope it's not too late).

Nevertheless, I'm checking on the status of http://www.1stplaceroofing.com
I submitted it to the Texas regional directory, business and commerce I think.

Am I dead in the water? I hope not, because I've slaved hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours over that site, researching and all. Everyone tells me its the best site they've ever seen for a roofing company...and, and, it's my family's sole source of income. sob sob.

I'm certain it's been 30 days, but to no avail. No 1st Place Roofing on dmoz.org...every day I check...every day nada...

:(

Hi Jennifer!

We can tell you nothing unless you provide the all-important link to the category(ies) where you suggested the site. Please take a look at the posting guidelines for this status forum. Thanks.

I ca'n't find a submission for that URL in that category, and there is no record of it having been reviewed. Please feel free to resubmit the site, once, to the most appropriate category, and then return here in a month for another status update.

All right, just relax. You did it all wrong, and IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER.

Editors have three responsibilities: finding, categorizing, and describing websites. We accept help (hints) in any of these, but the "finding" bit is perhaps most critical. Once found, we can categorize and describe it easily enough.

The site is waiting in that category for review, but that's the wrong category, I believe -- the site would be listed in Arlington, which is the address of the company location. (Metro is for companies that have locations in several local cities.) An editor will take care of that.

And the title and description is not up to our standards. An editor will take care of that, too.

Just ... not necessarily within the next 24 hours (or days, for that matter.) Because editors are not standing by waiting for submittals -- they're busy finding sites, processing submittals in other areas, weeding spam, and (rumor has it) occasionally having a life. We don't know exactly when an editor will next work on that topic.

Which, by the way, is how editors generally work--on the topic, not on any particular group of sites. We typically start out saying something like, "For some inexplicable reason I feel like working on Antediluvian Mitre Crenellations today." and, hieing over to Recreation/Useless/Obscure/Positively_Esotoric/By_Time_Period/Antedeluvian/Whatever , we proceed to (in no particular order) look at the sites already listed to see if they have interesting links, search Google or Yahoo for sites, look at the submitted sites, and copy URLs out of the latest issue of Antedeluvian Times Magazine.

Sites having to do with merely Chalcolithic Mitre Crenellations will generally be moved to the more appropriate category, to be handled when an editor next feels an urge to edit there.

uh oh

Perhaps I should change my lovely roofing website category? Maybe it's better suited for the Chalcolithic Mitre Crenellations section; in Arlington, Texas of course.

Anything to get listed.

:p   LOL

A suggestion - it won't affect the site review, but it might help your customers. I have to scroll down a long long long way to get to the bottom of the page and find all these links

About 1st Place Roofing
Trophy Standards
Our References
Roofing Process
Mid-Cities Roofing

Most users will not scroll down and bump their mouse over all those grey shingles. [But maybe you did this on purpose]

You makin fun of my shingles--Ay?

Hmmmm...I'll have to take that into consideration. One great thing about that website though, it brings in customers like the dickens. I'm serious. I am frequently amazed at how many calls we get from that website. I don't even have to worry about it, cause it just works all by itself.

But, I still want to be included in the dmoz. That will really make life grand.

I'll fix those links. I took off the ugly grey shingles already. I'm evolving... Most people go to the "roof pricing" page the most so I put that up first.

I'd love to see it on the dmoz...zzzzzzzzzzz

Thank you for everything...status check.

First, I just want to say thank you. I am learning how to build websites that are informative, usable and contain unique content. If it weren't for the volunteer editors at the DMOZ, I be building a lessor website for my clients today. Though the learning curve has been steep for me, I appreciate your patience.

I'm also conducting a status check. I believe I'm at the six month mark. I have revised my website at http://www.1stplaceroofing.com to better reflect your standards when it comes to titles and descriptions, etc... If it is not up to par, please give me specific correction if you have a moment. This will not only help to better my work for this site, but for my other sites that I submit as well.

Thank you,

Jennifer Ryan
