Since HighTower Inc is no longer focusing on consultanting services, and have expanded itself as a software vendor, we think that moving our site out of the Consultants category to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Accounting/Vendors/ will better describe our web-site and the service we provide.
We have also submitted new/updated description.

Then you should submit an update URL request in the Consultants category (using the "Update URL" link at the top of the category page) asking to have the site moved to the more appropriate location, instead of resubmitting your site to a new category.

Since your site is already listed in a nearby category, submissions you make to the Accounting Vendors category are at risk of being deleted as duplicate submissions.

do I have to wait till I have a confirmed "rejection" on my submission to the Vendor category before submitting an update request in the Consultant category???
After I submitted my update request, would I still be able to use this forum to check the status of the update?
if so, which category link should I put in my inquiry? Consultant or Vendor? both?

No you don't - you can go ahead and make the Update Listing request right away.
