I have a couple of questions here.
The 'poor' travel directory has not been
covered for over a year it seems.

I would like to get the above site listed on:
http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Services/Travel_Agents/

in the State of Tennessee.

If you will notice the listings of states, Tennessee has been omitted both in this category as well as a few others regarding travel.

Can anyone add this? Even considering that, hardly any sites have been listed.

My site: http://travelhostpro.com/ is listed under
the Regional category, however, I understand that you are allowed to be listed in a more specific category.

I have wanted to get this site listed for well over 2 years. But it is impossible with the state of Tennessee missing.

Whereelse: could I possibly submit it to?

thanks for your help in looking into this.

You will not get the site listed under Regional/US. You will notice that the states listed in that category are all @links to the appropriate categories under the relevent state (i.e. under Regional/North_America/United_States/statename/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Services/Travel_Agents and you'll also notice that most of those statewide categories are virtually empty of actual sites and contain primarily @links to locality agent categories. That's because, in Regional, travel agents are generally listed where they are located (and as you stated, you are already listed there).

>>If you will notice the listings of states, Tennessee has been omitted both in this category as well as a few others regarding travel.

Tennessee doesn't appear in the list of state @links there because Tennessee doesn't have a statewide travel agents category. I'd imagine the same thing applies to the other travel and tourism categories you mention since Tennessee's state-level category structure only goes down as far as Travel_and_Tourism.

>>however, I understand that you are allowed to be listed in a more specific category.

Unfortunately, Recreation/Travel/Travel_Agents is simply a set of @links to the Regional categories. And since you offer a pretty broad range of services to a broad range of locales, you wouldn't qualify for listing anywhere else in Regional or in a more specific Topical category. So, your locality listing looks to me to be about the only place you'll be listed.

Edited to add: I can see that you've submitted the site all over the place. You should really stop doing that.

Well, the 'only' reason I kept submitting the site 'all over the place' like you mentioned is because I kept trying to get it to 'show' up some place. This has been over a course of 2+ years or so. I felt like most sites were listed in 'regional' plus somewhere else.

that is before I found this forum board and knew a bit more how the ODP truly works. I was beginning to wonder if there really was 'anybody' behind those submit links when they go unanswered for so long.

It was only by chance that I found the link to this forum just a couple of weeks ago. DOES ODP plan on advertising this link? (Like on the submission form or anything?)

Or is the idea to keep this forum a bit of a 'secret'.

thanks for your help. I guess then I should just quit working with http://travelhostpro.com/ if you think it belongs no place other than 'regional'. I find that a bit hard to accept though.

This forum isn't officially affiliated with the ODP so it isn't going to be advertising it any time soon. This is an unofficial, voluntary service provided by ODP editors.

I can appreciate your desire to see the site listed somewhere else besides Chattanooga but using the shotgun approach to submitting isn't an effective way to go about it, as you've learned. Having looked at the site and the various potentially relevent categories, I don't see anywhere but under Chattanooga that the site can be listed. As I said, it offers too broad a range of services to be listed under any travel specialty in Recreation and covers too broad a range of locales to be listed under a Regional category other than its locality. And travel agents don't get listed under Business/Hospitality (where it was also submitted).
