I'm afraid to say that at this time it does not have enough content to list.

So can I resubmit? How much content does a site need when it is just a forum and directory? Please inform me when I can resubmit and how much content a forum would need. I am a bit confused

Thanks

Forums are always caught in a catch 22. We won't list forums that are just starting out, since we don't consider they have enough content to be usefull to the users of ODP.

From your point of view, you will be fristrated, since you want to get listed in ODP, in order to publicize your forum so that it atracts people that will post messages and give it content.

So how many people do we need? We have 30 already that post new content everyday. I would think that would be a big enough comminity to warrent a spont in the directory. If not then am I allowed to submit again?

I dont want to be banned so I need to know how many people I would need, and also if and when I am able to resubmit.

This is a catch 22, I can't promote without this directory.

You most definitely can promote without the ODP. There are other directories, reciprocal links, messages posted on other fora...

As for a concrete number - it's all down to editorial judgement, I'm afraid. Cos it's not just that someone is posting, it's that someone is obviously making USEFUL posts.

Get the picture? This is why the ODP believes that "humans do it better" - you put fixed numbers on it and you can still end up with garbage listed.

Wow, I cant believe they dont think my members are making useful post. I guess I have to wait and see. But then can someone answer my question. When can I resubmit? Where do I go from here!

You are not going to get a hard and fast number from us, because there is no such thing.

Take a look at other forums that are in our directory. Do they ahve tens of posts? Hundreds of posts? Thousands of posts? Tens of thousands of posts?

We are looking for critical mass, something about which a surfer can say: "Wow, that site had a lot of really useful posts."

Another important reason why we DON'T give numbers: it depends on what your focus is. The more forums on a particular focus, the less useful each one is. If you are the first forum on widget-handcrafting, then a few dozen posts is plenty. If you are a forum on Google-for-webmasters, then a few thousand posts is plenty. The more forums on a particular subject, the less valuable each one is. At what point does a new forum have a NEGATIVE value? I'm not sure: maybe by the third, possibly by the tenth, certainly by the fiftieth. New forums in a very competitive area start out with a highly negative value, and they will need to be better than 75% or 90% of the forums that are already there, for us to do anything other than hope they die quickly, for the sake of all concerned.

1: Ok, but when can I resubmit? This question seems to be dodged.

2: My site is also a directory for web designer, should I try and post it in another directory then?

Thanks for your help

Gosh, from your reply I get the distinct impression that you have not listed to a word we said.

You can resubmit when you have ordes of magnitude more content than you have now. It might take years depending upon how quickly you accumulate posts.

No you cannot submit to another category. In fact, you should not resubmit until you have come back to this forum (bookmark this thread) and asked an editor to take a peek at your website.

Big hint: if we see you within six months, the answer is probably going to be no!

Remember, we are looking for quantity and quality.

I'd think from an editors standpoint, having a signup page that read's: "FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY NON-FUNCTIONAL PLEASE DISCUSS IN FORUM", might also influence their opinion of the "readiness" of this submission.

I wouldn't want to submit a site with "Under Construction" pages either. BTW: the CAPs were not shouting... just a cut & paste from the page itself ;)

Here your caution - nothing to stop your submitting again today - and get rejected again.

Then add a few more posts and submit in a couple of week to try again. Get rejected again.

Each time you do this, you waste editors time and your reputation detoriates. Then maybe at some point in the future you get to that magic point where your site has enough content to be accepted, but it's still maybe. The chances are you get rejected again, because you build up a list of rejections, and who wants to be the first editor to make that momentous decision to accept your site -- they are going to wait until it's really really very full of content. :2cents:

ok. I guess I'll have to wait until I think there are enough posts. If my directory builds up enough can my catagory be changed? I dont want to be limited by one thing on my site. It really serves to purposes.

Thanks for all your guys help.

We can discuss that when your site has more content and is legitimately ready to be submitted. It is impossible to speculate on what the site will contain in the future.
