Your suggestion has been received and is awaiting review. We can't predict when that might be. If it hasn't been listed in 6 months, please ask again in this same thread.

I am afraid your suggestion has been declined. Thanks for the enquiry anyway.

Eeek! That was quick - reviewed between Jim looking at it and me.

Just wondering why our site was shot down?

Any input on how we can improve and or become
more relevant would certainly be appreciated!

You should be able to find your answer in the Guidelines. I am sorry but we do not go into any more details as to why a site is not accepted.

Please see the section in the FAQ titled:
Why won't you get into a discussion about why you won't list my site? for more information.

If you have looked properly at the guidelines you will see a list of sites we don't list. http://editors.dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html#notinclude is quite specific. Your suggested URL is an affiliate and contains no original content of its own, the fact that the revenue generated from the site is for good causes is not relevant I'm afraid, there is simply no flexibility on this. Sorry.

More confused!

I see that at least one third of the listings in this category are 'true' affiliate sites.

At SHOP.COM we do not link off to our partner sites to complete a purchase, we process all orders in house. Although technically yes we are an aggregator/affiliate type site we are really quite unique.

We do have exclusive products not available elsewhere.

We have an extensive customer feedback and rating system for all active merchants.

We have the only eGift service currently on the web.

And we make it possible to donate a percentage from any and all purchases made on our site to any charity a customer a can think of.

I am just trying to see what makes us so different from schoolpop or For Society or Market Day which are pure linkoff affiliates, and what we can do to make us as acceptable to DMOZ standards as they are...

Sorry to keep at this it's just I am hearing one thing and seeing quite the opposite and just want to understand my actual limitations so I can figure out how we might be able to better comply with DMOZ rules the way these other sites have been able to.

Thanks Again...I promise I'll go quietly once I see what I am missing...

Pete

We are aware of problems within that category and it is on our "list of things to do", though as with all things DMOZ it relies on an editor with the inclination, necessary experience, and most importantly time, to deal with it. As you can imagine it is not our highest priority.

So no more affiliate/affiliate-type sites will be accepted into that category and existing ones that don't comply with our current guidelines will be purged in time.

Hope that answers your concerns. :)
