Hi Friends,
I submitted my site to the prestigious dmoz directory around two months ago to the following category
http://dmoz.org/Business/Small_Business/Home_Office/

I would like to know the status of the submission and if possible, recommendations to speed up the submission or to resubmit to different category,
Thanks,
Mufad.

Your submission of June 22nd is still waiting for review in this category, along with more than two hundred other sites. This is unfortunately quite a backlogged area of the area, and I don't have many ideas about how to speed up the process - besides the general idea of becoming an editor in a nice small category, e. g. of your home town or your hobby, thus helping the editing community ...

Thanks For Your Prompt Reply uzs980,
I would like to help by becoming an editor of this category which has this huge backlog as I specialize in this area.
It is not just the personal motive of having my site listed but the service to the community that inspires me to volunteer for this activity;. My website too is a community website
I will not be able to contribute as much by becoming an editor of a small category like you have suggested as I can by helping to clear the existing backlog.
Is there a way that I can become a co-editor or help to clear the backlog without actually becoming an editor ?
Thanks,
Mufad.

There is a kind of co-editorship for clearing up backlogs (called "greenbusting" - unreviewed sites are shown in green on the editor screen). But this program is open only to editors - you have to be an editor of another category first, which does not have to be related to your greenbusting category.

You could try to become an editor of a subcategory first - for example Business: Small Business: Home Office: Guides or Resources. The problem is that these categories get a lot of inappropriate submissions. I just had a look at the unreviewed submissions in the Guides category. You'd expect to find small business home office guides there. But here's what I've found in the ten newest submissions:
  • a badly designed affiliate site
  • another affiliate site
  • just another affiliate site
  • the site of a Polish violin maker (in Polish language, the English version doesn't work)
  • a site with non-working links
  • a site in Indonesian language loading very slowly
  • a never finished affiliate site
  • a site that actually might be a small business guide (yeah!)
  • another site that doesn't look too spammy at first glance (wow!)
  • an affiliate e-book site[/list:u]
You see it can be difficult (and even discouraging) to edit in this area. If you're still interested, apply as an editor. Really think about starting out in small quiet non-spammy category of your home town or hobby. And welcome to our editing community.

    Yours,
    Robert

Thanks Robert,
I appreciate the time you took to respond to my questions.
I have applied as an editor for the Guides Category.
I know it can be difficult but I think I am up to the challenge,
How long does it take to know if I am approved as an editor ?
Thanks,
Mufad.

Waiting for that reply is even more painful than waiting for your site being listed. I know that feeling. :smirk:

The good news is that editor applications are processed relatively quickly. It's often just a matter of days. If you haven't heard anything after two or three weeks, go to the "Becoming an editor" section of this forum and ask.

Yours,
Robert
