Sorry I asked. There is such a thing as interpreting rules to rigorously.

It is true that people submitting sites have no rights at all as far as the ODP is concerned but if they are not fair with people then they will rapidly lose the reputation that they at present enjoy. Things move fast in the computer world - flavor of the month today can easily go down the drain tomorrow.

Being an editor, you can of course read your own website's editor notes for yourself. Just add it to your bookmarks :).

Sorry for not noticing the first time around.

As to the forum's rules, which are intended to reduce unneccessary traffic, they apply to all submitters whatever their status. That's fair isn't it :) ?

Too pedantic. Try BEING fair not giving the impression you are by quoting rules and regulations which are only meant to be used in extreme cases. Not when someone is making a GENUINE enquiry. If I didn't know better I would think that some people are being deliberately difficult for their own purposes.

The rules were not meant to be used in extreme cases, they are meant to be used all the time which is why we use them all the time and there are specific reasons why they are in place. I've been around RZ for quite awhile, I am not aware of cases where the rules were used randomly.

The ODP isn't about being "fair". It's about being "generous beyond anyone's deserts."

Doesn't a good site DESERVE a listing?

Well...no, ethically speaking, no, it can't. A webmaster has done nothing directly for an editor (and if you did, that would be bribery...), and therefore have no direct claim on any editor. The only way a site can get listed is for an editor to give something valuable away -- and nobody can deserve that. (And don't ever ask for what you deserve. You might get it: if you insist strongly enough on it, you WILL get it.)

Your status request is not formatted correctly, and we cannot respond until such time as you have read the 'read before posting' notice on the top of the forum and corrected your request.

Plus, you have violated forum rules by opening a new thread to discuss a URL that has previously been discussed. Please return to your old thread.

People are saying that Tony Blair is the re-incarnation of Hitler and the only thing holding him back is the reserve of the British people. There seems to be more than one Tony Blair about.

<I've combined the two threads together -- please don't start any new threads to ask about your suggestion status and please leave the smart assed comments at home. Thanks.>

As a submitter your behaviour here is unacceptable - either follow the forum rules for requesting a status report, or leave the forum so the rest of us can concentrate on those who do follow the rules. As an editor it is deplorable - you know full well that editors asking for information receive no special treatment in this forum. Why should one of us put ourselves out to provide *you* with a clickable link when we insist everyone else does that for themselves, and why should anyone go look at all given your responses. If you think that being an editor means you should be exempt from following the rules requested of others then perhaps you should consider why you are an editor at all.

Not sure why you asked for a status report there when you could have looked at the log for the URL yourself by adding it in your Bookmarks  Ah well... Thanks for providing the information in the correct format BTW.
