Re: Status!

I am sorry but we chose not to list the site because it appears to be a lead generater which is a type of site we do not list in the directory.

Re: Status!

Thanks "thehelper" for the quick status.
I am little surprised because we are kind of an Open Source for jobs and careers connecting job seekers and employers without any passwords or registrations.
I had hoped that Dmoz would have recognised our efforts and listed us. Other bigger commercial sites are infact listed in more than one categories.
I would be grateful if you can reconsider your descision and not demotivate young people like us.

Maninder

Re: Status!

Maninder,

It is nothing against you or your business personally. We just list the sites that actually post the jobs on the site rather than having to submit a form and someone gets back to you. It is the same way with Insurance sites and other types.

I am not the one that reviewed your site and declined the submission - I am just communicating to you the reason why the site was not listed and the reasoning behind the decision.

Re: Status!

I suggest taking a wait and see stance at this point. Let some other editors check it out - read this thread - and see if they have additional comments on this.

Thanks a ton "thehelper". I am a young person into internet research and putting some of my ideas on 123oye.com
I really admire your quick replies and would request you to review the site and give your suggestions for it.

Thanks again

Re: Status!

Hello!
Any editors reviewing my site again?
I admire Dmoz and its concept and all this seems so negative and contrary to my belief

Re: Status!

If you feel the site has content that an editor missed, resubmit it and make a note of what was missed in a note at the end of the description. You're unlikely to get someone to review the site here and now based on this thread so resubmitting is really your best chance.

Re: Status!

Thanks Motsa for the advice.
I would do that. What do you personally think of the site?

Re: Status!

I do not edit in the section of the directory where you submitted this site, but I did look over your site, and found it to be devoid of content.

What your site appears to do is collect information from job seekers. It does not offer any lists of jobs, and in following most links to their conclusion, one is asked to complete and submit a form.

This is most likely why the site was not accepted the first time. We do not list sites whose primary purpose is to gather information from surfers, no matter what they eventally do with that information.

This does not mean that every site that gathers some information is rejected, there is a matter of balance. We look for other worthwhile, unique content to see if it has more "weight" than the information gathering. A few testimonials and a page of jokes, does not constitute much "weight", at least in my opinion.

If that were not enought (and it is!) you are also hampered by your privacy policy, which discusses what the site will be in the future -- and ODP does not care about what you want your site to be when it grows up, it cares about your site on the day we review it.

I would not have very high hopes for a successful submission, but I could be wrong.

Re: Status!

This content was pointed out by the poster

http://www.123oye.com/sales-marketing-jobs-info-delhi-india.htm

and it apparently has direct links to the contacts you would send your resume to without having to register or fill out a form. If the poster's site had alot more of that content that can be easily found I don't think there would be any problems Apparently though, the editors that have taken the time to check out the site have not been blown over by that content. They, like me, were probably presented with that contact page at every turn. We don't list lead generation type sites - and this site really gives that impression. Maybe that is a good sales technique - but it just frustrates me.

I am not going to spend all day on your site if I was reviewing it. Only if the lead generation content is secondary to the main purpose of the site, do you have any chance of being listed, imo. You need good relevant content - stuff that stands on its own without even considering anything on the site that leads to a contact form in order to get a listing in dmoz. You have to be an online resource rather than an online contact.

After all of this, the following is my final thought on the subject.

Please note that there are many different opportuniies to promote your site outside of dmoz. IMO, you should pursue those alternatives and not get too worried about your dmoz listing. My 2 cents (we need one of those Graemlins).

Peace.

added - The above opinion is based on the site content as of now - if you get more unique content that is easily found in the future feel free to resubmit.

Basically follow motsa's advice a few posts above if you can get alot more unique content.

Putting notes in brackets after the submission in the site description field is an excellent way to communicate your thoughts about the submission to the reviewing editor.

Re: Status!

It does actually offer a couple of job listings on the top right of each of the job category pages but they don't stand out on any of the pages (and there aren't very many of them). Most of the content seems to be lists of people looking for work and lead generation stuff (as noted by the other editors who've posted here).

Definitely pay attention to the suggestions offered by thehelper in the above post.

Re: Status!

Thanks Motsa and thehelper for your lovely suggestions.
123oye.com has a section which gives career links to the corporate websites. What else can a job seeker ask for direct inroad to a company without any hinderances and believe me the job seekers love it.
Anyways Thanks again
