I have been trying to get this site listed for well over a year now. Last year I was able to communicate with someone on this forum, then I got sick and was laid up for several months. Now when I attempted to get back into the forum I found that I had to register again... my email address (which hasn't changed in many years) was no longer recognized either.

What in the world can anyone do to get a site listed? Can someone please check on this site and let me know if I have to start the process all over again.... AGAIN.

site: http://www.americansteelspan.us

Any help and assistance would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Well, normally we require a clickable link to the category where the suggestion was made, but I was able to see that it is currently awaiting editorial review in category http://dmoz.org/Business/Constructi...s/Special_Construction/Metal_Building_Systems

Submissions to categories:
Regional/North_America/United_States/Virginia/Business_and_Economy/Construction_and_Maintenance
Regional/North_America/United_States/Regions/South_and_Southeast/Business_and_Economy
Regional/North_America/United_States/Virginia/Localities/V/Virginia_Beach/Business_and_Economy/Construction_and_Maintenance
Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Do-It-Yourself/Structures
Business/Agriculture_and_Forestry/Barns_and_Structures

have been declined in favour of the one named. There may be other submission out there too which haven't been reviewed yet. Presumably you missed the part in the submission page that tells you to suggest a site to the single category that fits the site the best....

In response to your question about what you can do to help get the site listed, I would advise you not to submit it any more. It is there for review, and an editor will decide where it fits best in the directory, if it is eligable for a listing. Chances are that editor does not read this forum.

So the best thing you can do is to wait, I'm afraid.

Thanks

One of the people here that was assisting me last year also had me submit regionally since it was taking so long to get it listed in business. I am just way confused on why the process takes well more than a year when some can get listed right away and in categories where there are no editors either. Is there anything at all that can speed up the process?

.... have been declined in favour of the one named. ????

(Sorry, I was editing my previous post when you answered....)

Suggestions get processed completely at random. You can't tell from whether there is a named editor how long it is going to take to get a site reviewed.

Review times are anything from 2 minutes to several years, depending on... well, pure luck and happenstance, really. That's the nature of this beast (and there have been many more items written in this forum by people far more eloquent than I on why that works for the best interests of the directory).

As for the Regional listing - in nearly all cases, sites are listed in the locality where the office is based. You have two offices, one in Virginia, the other in Tennessee, from what I see.

My advice would be for you to sit tight and let it play out, now. Further submissions will probably just further delay the review process.

Thanks.

Well all the submissions were made under the advise of editor(s) thinking that somehow, someway, someone out there would get it listed. The category that it is currently stuck in says "Volunteer to edit this category" ... which I can only assume means that no one will be looking at it anytime soon. Like I said it ... it really get frustrating when you see sites instantly listed ... while you do everything that you have been advised to do... and wait forever .... and never get listed.

There is never a "guarantee" that any site that is suggested (and that is all it really is a suggestion) will be listed. A volunteer will eventually review the suggestions and either list, move or delete the suggestion.

Your assumtion would be incorrect then. A majority of subcategories do not have named editors. Any editor with permissions in a higher category can and does edit in any of it's sub-categories. Also, there are hundreds of editors with category wide permissions able to edit anywhere they take an interest.

We are all volunteers here, who work where we take interest and when we have time to do so. You have suggested your site for possible inclusion. Eventually someone will be able to take a look and see if it is eligible for a listing. No one knows how long that will be.

The only thing you can do is remain patient and carry on with your other site promotional strategies. Once you have suggested a site for review to dmoz.org, there really isn't anymore you can or need to do.
