Make the link clickable, please.

We don't run queues. We review sites. But yes, some sites have been up for years before we first review them.

In fact, there are no queues. There are just "heaps" of sites people have specifically suggested we look at (that is, site suggestions or submittals).

Could you give me a quick and dirty estimate of how far off is it from being reviewed? Is it in the top 10%, 25%? How soon can I expect a review?

Thank you for your assistance.

You are free to expect a review any day you wish. We have no way of predicting when a review will take place - as explained in the forum FAQ page.

I understand the voluntary and unpredictable nature of the review process. In fact I am no longer asking for the date when my site can be evaluated. I just want to understand why you cannot tell me how far off my site is from being evaluated (percentile/rank). If you do not view submissions as queues, but rather look at them as "piles", does it mean that sites are evaluated at random? Do you adhere to the first come first serve basis, or use some other principle?

Thank you for your insight and help.

There are several ways an editor can sort the submission pile, first in is only one way. Take the other editors word for it, there is no way to predict when an editor will review your site or any site.

The editor that will review your sites is unpredictable, there will be several hundred who could review it.

A particular editor might have decided to work on that categroy, and if we took the time, we could see if someone had editied it this week, then we could look at whether he had edited that categroy the week before. You might think that could predict whether he would edit that category next week, but it isn't, we would have to ask that editor and no editor will make a comittment about what he will do in the future.

But let's ignore that, and assume he answers [not that we would spend the time asking him that question] and he answers yes, I fully intend to do three edits in that category next week. Then I suppose we could say that if there were 100 sites waiting to be reviewed, there is a 3% chance your site will be edited next week.

Would that tell you anything - actually no. But you might assume that it meant that he will continue do 3 edits a week, and in 30 weeks he will have gone through all 100 and your site will have been reviewed.

But wait, new submissions are coming in all the time, so we have to go back and figure how many sites are beding submitted each week, because that will affect the estimate. So lets assume that one site gets submitted per week, so at the end of 30 weeks there are 30 more sites to be reviewed, so if he's reviewing randomly he might just end up missing your site and doing the others, so 10 weeks later he's finished, but in the meantime 10 more sites come in, etc. etc. and I forgot the formula for doing this, but's lets say we figure out at the edn of 50 weeks, your site will 100% be guaranteed to be reviewed and you find it is not.

So you come back here and ask why the site was not listed yet, and are very upset, that we did not meet out predictions, and we have to tell you that the editor got bored with editing and quit.

That's we we don't spend time giving long answers to "How long will it be till my site is reviewed"

Adhere? We never made contact with it in the first place!

Remember, we're EDITORS. We go boldly where no surfer has gone before. We find new sites previously unknown to man, and drag them into the limelight.

We don't need no stinking submittals!

But there's no rule absolutely prohibiting an editor from reviewing a site just because it was submitted.

OK, that's a slight exaggeration. But remember, I was here when we didn't HAVE any stinking submittals -- or even Google search. And we edited just fine. If all the submittals disappeared tomorrow, we'd ... just go on finding and listing good sites. (well, after the twenty-four-hour celebration and binge and hangover, we would.)
