Thank you for giving us this resource to contact the editors of ODP. I have submitted my site - http://www.datingreviewsonline.com for inclusion several times in the last 3 months. I submitted in this category originally - http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/International/D/
each time with a very detailed description of the service we are offering. I then submitted it http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Relationships/Dating/Directories/
in case this was more accurate but still nothing.

Can you please let me know if there is something wrong with my description, submission, etc. If not, what is the status. Thank you.

This is the ODP, not Google so the links provided do not work to check a status.

Your site was denied in April for being full of affiliate links. In addition, it was found that some links didn't work.

There is a submission from July 24th waiting in http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/International/D/

and one from 04/Aug/2003 waiting in
http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Directories

But ODP doesn't list affiliate sites, which this appears to be to me and therefore won't be listed.

I apologize, I submitted to dmoz, but I was searching for the links through the directory and I pulled up the Google ones. But I did indeed submit to these categories:

You are correct in saying that my site does have affiliate links. However we review over 150 dating sites and only affiliate with 25 of them. In addition, in the directory -- http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Directories
every site with the exception of "about.com" listed in here is an "affiliate" site similiar to ours. Every single one, so how can we be barred from this directory when other sites are admitted?

I was hoping to receive a reply from you regarding the contradiction in your statement that "affiliate" sites don't get listed when everyone one of your listings in this directory - http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Directories - are "affiliate" sites. Can I contact the dating editor with this question or can you explain this contradiction?

I won't be saying anything specific about other sites in the category, that's not the purpose of this forum. I will say that calling our attention to other sites in a category with the same sort of content as yours does not help your cause at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. If we find that everything on your site is also available on other listed sites, we will deem it to add nothing to the category and won't list it.

About the evaluation of your site though: it does await review in the directories category. An editor familiar with that area will look at it, mentally blanking out all affiliate content, and decide if what remains will add value to the category.

It definitely won't be listed in http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/International/D/ since it's not a personals site itself but rather a collection of links to personals sites.

Thanks for the reply. I was only pointing out content of the other sites bc the last responder to my post insinuated that I was doing something that you frown on. So I simply pointed out that the directory I was applying for does similiar reviews. To say that it will hurt me bc other sites have the same type of site I do doesn't really hold true to the object of the Internet as a whole - to give surfers the best information possible (and this is often done through competing websites in the same market). If what you insinuated was true, then any site that is similar to Yahoo, or Match.com or Google, may as well not even apply to the ODP.

My site does offer excellent insite into the online dating world, and although this opinion may be biased, I think the best insite of all dating directories.

And you are quite right to say that I will not be listed in listed in http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/International/D/ since my site is not a personals site.

So in conclusion, from your response, I understand that my site is still under the editor's review for the above directory. Correct?

Correct, as of a few days ago. I haven't looked again, and won't unless you ask again at least a month after your most recent inquiry. Should you so ask, please reuse this thread rather than starting a new one.
