morrisflorey.com was never listed (hence we would not have got an update for it) - we have http://austin.citysearch.com/E/V/AUSTX/0001/39/72/ which as you say is dead.

You should have submitted an update request for that URL instead of submitting egmlaw.com separately.

Instead of deleting the dead URL I have substituted the new one - the change should be on the public servers in a few days, maybe more, but it is done. Thanks for drawing this to our attention.

http://www.austintexascriminaldefense.com was submitted by someone with the initials KG at lawinfo.com - you could get in touch with him and warn him that his practice of submitting mirror sites is harming him and his clients, including you. Apart from it breaching our rules with the potential consequences being the exclusion of all related sites, it is clogging up the pool of unreviewed sites, causing additional unnecessary work, and adding greatly to delays. I suspect editors will probably start to completely ignore anything and everything he/she submits to us on the basis that it is probably a mirror, whether it is or is not.

As an example, one editor could have seen egmlaw.com as a mirror of austintexascriminaldefense.com and excluded it, another might have seen austintexascriminaldefense.com as a mirror of egmlaw.com and excluded that one too. Result - total exclusion. These things really do happen.

Thanks. I need clarification

Thank you for your prompt response re: www.egmlaw.com. I want to make sure I understand what is being done. The text of the link that appeared in the directory for the citysearch link was www.morrisflorey.com. I want to make sure that that text no longer appears in the directory. That is my former firm and it no longer exists. The link for my sucessor firm is the egmlaw.com url. What should appear in the directory is The Law Office of E. G. Morris with the egmlaw.com link. (This may be exactly what you were telling me. If so, I apologize for being thick). With regard to the www.austintexascriminaldefense.com, that is a site I own but it is not a mirror site in that it is not a duplicate of the other site. I am constantly updating the egmlaw.com site and it is quite different in content now than the other site. However, if having two sites registered is in violation of dmoz's rules I will unregister the austincriminaldefense.com site. I plan to discontinue that site in about six months anyway. I can unregister it immediately if I have violated the rules. It is my intention to be a good citizen of this organization.

The way we use the word "mirror" is often confusing.

In most people's thinking, if you walk up to a mirror and see an image of yoruself, then it is a mirror.

In our view, if you walk up to a mirror and see an image of your brother, it is a mirror because the two of your are related even if, as we all know, you are much better looking than your brother.

Hope this helps.

I think even if you walk up to the mirror and see a mutant ninja turtle - we call him a mirror - if he talks the same way that you do.
