Hello,
I have submitted my site ( http://www.focuspools.com) a few times over the past 3 years and keep getting rejected for (lack of unique content).

That's funny since we sell several brand name pool and spa chemicals that are only available at our site.

Can someone please provide a status for this URL.

Well those rejections were from 2 years ago, and the editor who rejected your site is no longer with the ODP.

It's waiting in a rather backlogged category.

It's been almost a year since I last submitted. Is the backlog that long?

OK. I've been at this for over 3 years so I lost track as to when I last did it. Is 5 Months normal or does that seem like a long wait? Some people on this forum are complaining when their site doesn't show up in 4 weeks. I've been very, very patient.

For the cat you submitted to, considering the size of the backlog, 5 months isn't surprising. There are areas of the ODP with a backlog of over 2 years. Shopping tends to be particularly backlogged. Too many submissions, and too few volunteer editors.

Can I submit to my regional area without writing over my Shopping area submittal.

I would like to submit to:
Regional/North_America/United_States/North_Carolina/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/

You can, if you have a brick and mortar shop you would qualify for a regional listing in addition to a shopping listing provided your site has adequate content (I did not go view site) <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />

You aren't likely to get a Regional listing since there is absolutely zero location-specific contact information on your sit (an email address is the only way people have to contact you). You could be anywhere on the planet.

Generally, you wouldn't be listed at the state level unless you had a bunch of stores all over the state. If you really are located in Waxhaw, NC, then you could submit to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/North_Carolina/Localities/W/Waxhaw/Business_and_Economy/ (but I'd make sure my address was on the site before I did that).

Thanks. No brick and mortar, just our site. We don't try to hide who we are. Search Dun &amp; Bradstreet, WhoIs, etc.

We tried the 800 numbers and all we got was "My water is cloudy, what's wrong" or "How much do I add" (this is when the dosage level per 1000 gallons is on the bottle and we have no idea how many gallons of water they have). Needless to say we took alot of problem calls and only 2% of our sales were from the 800 number during a 3 month period.

Thanks for all your comments, I guess I'll continue to wait it out for my listing to get reviewed. Hopefully it's before the pool season is over. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

NOTE: If a directory editor was booted off the team (as so many have been), shouldn't DMOZ review their rejections to justify any wrongdoings?

Nice thought but not really practical -- if I were to be "booted off the team" tomorrow, I doubt anyone would have the time or energy to go through all of the sites I've added or modified, let alone the ones I rejected, over my years here to see if I was justified in my handling of each and every one of them.

This thread reminded me that I will need to be getting my pool ready. So I spent some time in the queue here just looking for good sites to list, of which, yours was one.

Many, many thanks. Nice to know this forum is taking on some of these issues when brought to your attention.

motsa, good modification to the charter, too. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> I usually rely on the descriptions when editing in areas I'm not that familiar with.

As I began listing sites, I noticed there had been some confusion in the past, and was afraid I was getting a bit confused myself. I hope to put some time in on this category this weekend, clarifying descriptions and moving some misplaced sites around. Seems like a good time for it. <img src="/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" />
