hello everybody!
The category I submitted to about two months ago was:
http://www.dmoz.org/World/Espa%f1ol/Compras/Regalos/

It took me about twenty tries in 10 different internet cafes until I got the success message. And I dare not try again!
I tried to wait and wait, but I can't wait no longer. If someone could relieve me of my pains and tell me that it is being processed or at least is in some queue???
You would save a man from insanity!

Thanks,
Alx Dean

Now I'll be able to last at least another 2 months before my brain cells threaten to disolve into mush!

Thans a lot for the fast response.
You guys are doing a great job! Shame I got rejected though...

Keep up the good work!

Simple: Because it is still waiting.
Seems that no editor found the time to look for that category yet.

nice,
That helps to know.
ARGH.
Any tips on what I could do?
I mean I'd be happy to do my share of the deal.
How about becoming editor for that category? would that help? but would that mean that I have to become editor for each cat I want to submit a site to? jeez that would take some time.
Anything I can do without spending the next three months trying to become an editor for dozens of sections? the problem is that I don't want to be an editor for that section. My spanish is not that great and I'd probably do more harm than good.
Any ideas most welcome...

First, you have to be approved to be an editor, and the motivation of doing so needs to be other than just to promote your own site. Metas do a great job of weeding people out who only have an interest in promoting their site. If you want to become an editor, and feel like picking one category and believe that you can treat other sites fairly (the purpose not being just to get your site listed) then you should go for it. Also, your site should mostly likely be listed in just the one most appropriate category, it sounds like you have big plans for multiple cats going on here (you mention dozens of sections). Your motivation "the problem is that I don't want to be an editor for that section" doesn't sound appropriate to even apply. I would suggest waiting until an editor has time to get to that category.

Personally, I have a site that has been waiting nearly a year to be listed. Technically I *could* go to that category and list it, since as an editall I can edit throughout the directory. I don't do that, however, because it wouldn't be fair for me to do that. My point being that even as an editor I have to be patient and play by the same rules.

hey, thanks for the feedback and the "criticism".
I am not planning on applying to become an editor for any section I would not want to be active in. I was just frustrated.
I had applied to a section three times, where a strong interest lies, and yes I have a website in that other section too. But I was rejected three times. could not think of one reason as to why. I am happily editing in Zeal and love it. every once in a while a new site comes my way and I look at it, and evaluate it, help people out, approve sites that fit or suggest better places, should they fit somewhere else better.
I believe in the principle of an "open" directory. I love the idea. And I truly believe that only by playing a fair game can this work.
That is why I felt a bit frustrated.
I have sites that come into my hands once in a while and I take the time to scan dmoz and to figure out where to put it best. And I tend to look for the most appropriate section. not the best looking one or most profitable. I do this because I believe in the internet, and in "organisations" such as dmoz.
when I mentioned the dozens of cats, I was hypothesising on the posssiblility that I would have to become editor for each cat I would like to suggest a site for, to enable inclusion. And the mere thought of that is a nightmare.

That is why I was asking for tips on what I can do.
positive criticism is good, but some hints on what direction to take would be even better.

The problem is that there is no suggestions for making a site be listed sooner. Editors are volunteer. Some sites are added immediately because an editor who is very active has interest in that section of the directory. Some sites seem to take forever...backlogs can happen in areas of the directory where the interest is not as high. Because we are volunteer, the amount of time a person spends can be great or small...and where the most editing is done is up to the volunteer who is giving their time. No site is every guaranteed a listing, but the positive side is that once a listing happens--it is free.

The only advice I could give would be to be patient. I didn't mean to "criticize" you, what I just meant to do is explain how the process works. I used my site for example because what you are experiencing isn't unusual. Some sites wait for awhile before they are viewed and considered for listing. It happens to all of us who submit a site for evaluation, even editors. There is no way to speed the process along. You could email an editor higher up on the tree, but personally I NEVER go to the individuals site and process it because someone asked me to. IMHO it is not fair to go list someone's site just because someone tried to push the process along when other sites are patiently waiting. I've received many a similar email request because I am listing as an editor at the top of the Shopping level. My take on this is that ODP listings are free, and the reason I volunteer my time is that it is something I enjoy where I can contribute to keeping these listings free. With human editors contributing free time it creates a structure where those submissions are then dependent on our free time. I do as much as I can when I can. No one tells me I have to do more, and they are happy to have the time I give. We all have lives and responsibilities outside of here, however, and so along with the "free" becomes the necessity for a site to sometimes sit in a queue and wait until someone has time to process it. There really is no way to speed it along, all one can do (IMHO) is hope someone has time to review the site quickly.

thanks kokopeli,
For taking the time to talk to me and for all the hard work you must be putting into dmoz and boards like these.
I guess I'll just sit tight and hope that one day the site will be listed.

And best wishes for the yet to be born!!!
