Hi,

This requires a bit of a story in order to explain the problem behind this site. Back in the summer of 2003, the site was removed from DMOZ after having been listed for a year. The DMOZ editor discovered that the agent shown on the site had another site. So the editor removed http://www.halifax-nova-scotia-real-estate.com and replaced the listing with the agent's other site. However, this editor didn't carefully review the agent's secondary site because it was in a state of less than 50% completion. So the agent complained that the site that was removed should remain and that http://www.halifax-nova-scotia-real-estate.com should be reinstated. Instead of complying with the agent's request the editor removed both sites and refused to list the original site. As the webmaster for the site I got involved and tried dealing with the DMOZ editors. I ended up corresponding frequently with one DMOZ meta-editor. At first the meta-editor was very abusive calling me a spammer and said the was junk and that it lacked content. I repeatedly explained that site didn't any of the things that he described and that it was rich in content. Then he wrote something that really surprised me he said the site didn't even have contact information for the agent (this is not true the contact information is clearly marked). I quickly realized that the meta-editor had never even looked at the site. I confronted him on this and eventually got him to look at the site. He said it was fine and that I should resubmit it.

I did. To: Top: Regional: North America: Canada: Nova Scotia: Localities: H: Halifax: Business and Economy: Real Estate

Over a year later, the site is still not listed. Since that time the original agent is gone and they gave the site to another agent. I still act was webmaster and this new agent asked me to finally get this situation resolved.

I apologize for the lengthy letter, but this situation had to be explained. There is actually much more to the story, but it is not necessary for me to discuss it in an open forum.
I hope that someone can help.
Thanks,

Thanks Bobrat,

I hope that people do read the original posts. Which goes to show the attitudes I faced when I originally contacted the resource zone. Many of people writing didn't even look at the site. It features about 100-200 pages of content this I think most would agree is a considerable amount of content. The site does feature tourism information. This makes sense because the real estate market it caters to mainly receives buyers that are either returning to Halifax and need an update as to how the area has changed or they seeking a retirement area that has many of the features of a tourism destination.

Another editor commented that the site URL is a keyword stuffed domain. Actually the site URL makes senses as it clearly states what the site is about. Originally, it was designed to be an information site for Royal Lepage on the Halifax real estate market. The name Halifax-Nova-Scotia-Real-Estate was an oobvious choice all shorter names were taken as well. Remember that the site that we are writing on is Resource-zone (it too is a hyphened domain). Also, the site had been listed for over a year before and there was no problem before. A long URL does not imply spam.

Another editor called the site a lead generator. In all honesty I really don't know what this means. All web sites that are commercial are meant to generate some form of contact whether this is an order or a request for more information. This site like every other real estate agent website does allow the user to submit a request for buying or selling a home. This information goes directly to the agent shown on the site just like every other agent web site does. If this is considered a lead generator then all real estate sites should be classified as such and therefore be banned from DMOZ. When I think of lead generator sites I think of HomeGain affiliates or sites that sell leads to many agents. This site is the agent's site and they do not pay for the leads because it is their site.

I hope that someone reads this and really takes a look. Also, I recommend that all editors take a look at what is currently listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...es/H/Halifax/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate
Many of the sites listed lack content and could be classified as just lead generators.

I hope this clarifies the situation and I hope this problem can be resolved.
Thank you,
Webbie
