Status of http://www.helpaboutcollege.com

I submitted my site http://www.helpaboutcollege.com to Top: Reference: Education: Colleges and Universities: Guides
about 6 weeks ago and again 2 weeks ago. I have never heard if the site was rejected or is pending review. On Friday I e-mailed the editor of the site and asked the same question, and never heard back. This is the first site I have submitted to ODP and don't know what to expect or how long to wait.

Can you help me find the status of this web site?

When you resubmit a site it rewrites the previous submission. If there is a large queue in a category, and that editor sorts by submission date it would then continually send your site to the end of the line--so it is never a good idea to keep resubmitting. Your site would otherwise wait in a queue (unless there is an error and it is not received) until it is reviewed.

That being said, in your case, your site has been reviewed in the category of http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Guides/. The result is that it was denied for having minimal original content, with a side note made that there are a lot of affiliate links.

Thanks for the update. I am confused about the note saying a lack of original content. The site contains much more information for college students than many of the other sites in the category. While the site does have affiliate links, it doesn't have any more than the other similar sites in this category.

So to get into the directory what should I do next. I spent a great deal of time creating the content on the many pages on the site and I can add more to it if required. Do I need to minimize the affiliate links or are they an automatic rejection?

The site is http://www.helpaboutcollege.com

I cannot honestly give you any further advice than I have (I did not want you to think that you were being ignored if your question goes unanswered). The evaluation was made by someone who has experience in this area. My area of expertise is in shopping, hopefully someone here who is familiar with http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Guides/ will offer some advice.

If no one answers in the next few days you might want to politely bump this thread back up to the top. Participation in this forum is voluntary and advice in this regard would need to come from someone familiar in the area. <img src="/images/icons/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Good luck.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I need to change my web site so that it can be submitted into this category? I thought I had quite enough original content, so after the earlier comments I am unsure of how much I will need. The web site is http://www.helpaboutcollege.com

I never heard back about the changes I would need to make to my web site http://www.helpaboutcollege.com to have it accepted into ODP. So after adding additional content I have submitted it again for review into the category /Reference/Education/Colleges_and_Universities/Guides/ . If anyone is familiar with this category could they let me know if the changes I have made will be sufficient?

When an editor who normally edits in that area of the directory reviews the site and decides to add/deny the listing a decision will be made. No one is able to tell you what an editor who is experienced in that area will be thinking when he or she reviews your site. You can check on status here and we can perhaps answer generalized questions but we cannot tell you if a site will be listed (although we can often tell you it won't be if it is say an affiliate, a mirror, an MLM reseller, etc.).
