Yes, you've got that right. And the more time we spend answering monthly updates, the less time we spend editing. :)

I do understand the need to ask questions, I'm not sure I see the value in monthly updates. You've done what you can on the submittal end. I suggest you now concentrate on building up the content on the site.

If you're still not listed in 6 months, come back and see if we've deleted your site from our review list.

It's a good job that you don't have to go on a customer services course before you become an editor eh! That would be even less time spent humoring us poor lonely, interested in what we do, Webmasters.

I will return in 1 month as I have done for the last 6 to ask if I am still pending or not. It has never been a problem up to now to ask. Have you changed your policy ?

I suggest you now concentrate on building up the content on the site.

Thanks for the advice. What do you think I have been doing for the last year?

A simple 'no you haven't been deleted' would have sufficed.

Just for the record, every editor I have dealt with so far has polite and courteous.

Thanks anyway.

Just a courteous clarification of terminology for you....

ODP editors in general have a very good idea who our customers are - they are the web surfers who use either the directory directly, or one of the many downstream users of our product - the directory. Website owners are content-providers for us - not our customers - they are people who make suggestions about what we might like to list which could be of value to our customers.

We get very little contact with our customers, and significantly more from our content providers.

Hope this helps.

That makes it ok then. Because we are JUST your content providers and NOT the customer - you can speak to us however you wish? And there was me thinking we lived in a civilized world.

No, it most certainly doesn't mean that we should speak to you however we wish. I think that everyone deserves mutual respect and courtesy, and I think most of us strive to do just that. We also appreciate it when submitters have that same attitude.

My purpose was merely to make sure that you don't think of this forum as providing "customer service" - the implication being that site owners or submitters should be treated as customers of the directory, which is not the case, for reasons that I have given.

I hope this clarifies what I was trying to say.

Ok. No problem.

Still think sole could have been a bit more tactful - but I will shut up now and let you guys do, what you do best.

Sorry to moan and bitch.
