www.radersfishandgame.com

I am sorry but it should not be under Pittsburg, Texas. It is a booking agency for premier fishing and hunting destinations in North, South and Central America. It really should be listed under several categories. Please look at the actual site and tell me where it should be listed and if possible in more than one category such as (Mexico bass fishing, peacock bass, Alaska fishing, Costa Rica fishing, Argentina hunting, Mexico hunting). If it can only be listed once it should be under the category I just asked for. It was originally designed by a person living in Pittsburg, Texas. That is the only connection to Pittsburg, Texas.

Thank you for your patience and time. I look forward to your response.

As editors, we go by what we find on the site, and the page http://www.radersfishandgame.com/moreinfo.asp is clearly gives your address as 3210 FM 195 PARIS, TEXAS 75462 with a telephone in area code 903 which, last time I looked, was in Texas.

If your office is not in Paris, Texas, where is it? And why would your website show your addess as being in Paris, Texas when it is someplace else?

If you would be kind enough to claify this for us, we can determine if the site placement is correct.

No, it really should not be listed under several categories. It should be listed in its locality, like other travel agent are.

Thank you both for your response. Please read this entire email carefully. I think it will explain what we are asking for.

I think the first thing I need to do is make sure you know what kind of business and product Rader's Fish and Game is about. We are not a travel agent. We do not arrange any kind of travel for our clients. We book fishing and hunting trips for our clients in North, Central and South America. Once a client books a fishing or hunting trip he makes his own travel arrangements to get there. Until our clients contact us via email they have no idea where we are physically located and could care less. We have clients in the U. S., Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, Japan and South Africa. They found us because of the fishing and hunting trips we can arrange for them not because of where we are located. None of the trips we offer are in Paris, Pittsburg or any other city in Texas. I have listed below for you the physical address of the listings you have for http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Mexico/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ which is where we wanted to be listed.

· Bass Fishing Trips In Mexico –Address is Reel Mexican Adventures, 6505 Kingsbury, Amarillo, Tx 79109
·
· Bass Mex – Address is Curry County, New Mexico.
· .
· Chapman and Balderrama Sport Fishing Resorts – Address is Los Mochis, Mexico
·
· Cortez Yacht Charters – Address is 3609 Hartzel Drive, Spring Valley CA.91977
·
· Mexico Bass Fishing – Address is 1530 E. Hope St. Mesa AZ 85204
· .
· Mexico Saltwater Fishing : World Wide Fishing Guide – Address is 2445 Morena Blvd # 104
San Diego, CA 92110
·
· Ron Speed's Adventures Address is 1013 Country Lane, Malakoff, TX 75148

Westside Adventures – Address is 2031 N. Hwy. 19, Emory TX. 75440

As you can see, none of them are listed where there physical office is. I hope this clears up why we wanted to be listed in that category.

Now let me try to explain why we think we should have multiple listings. If you will take just a minute or two and look at out web site you can see we have several types of fishing and hunting trips to offer our clients. Each location or type is a different product we have to offer. Our clients find us by using specific search terms ("Mexico bass fishing", "peacock bass fishing" or "Argentina hunting") depending on what type fishing or hunting trip they want to go on. As you can see, within our website there are several pages devoted to each type of fishing or hunting trip. Below is a list of each specific type of fishing or hunting trip our clients would search for and use us for. Below each one is the location in the directory where we think we should be listed.

Mexico bass fishing http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Mexico/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/

Mexico hunting http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Outdoors/Hunting/Guides_and_Outfitters/North_America/Mexico/

Peacock bass http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Outdoors/Fishing/Bass/Peacock_Bass/

Costa Rica fishing http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/sear...rs/Guides_and_Outfitters/North_America/Canada

Argentina hunting http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/sear...rica/Costa_Rica/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing

Alaska fishing http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer..._Sports/Outdoors/Fishing/Guides_and_Charters/

Canada hunting http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Outdoors/Guides_and_Outfitters/North_America/Canada/

dove, duck and goose hunting
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/sear...d_Sports/Outdoors/Fishing/Guides_and_Charters

Each of the list above is a totally separate product. Some clients have an interest in more than one of the above. Some are interested in only one. Regardless of how many different types of fishing or hunting trips a client is interested in, he should be able to find us by searching for just one.

Your time, help and consideration if greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your long and thoughtful posting. I trust that you will, in turn, read this message in an equally careful manner so that you can gain some understanding about how the Open Directory Project works.

Let me begin to explain. You are listed in the Regional/ part of the directory.

The Regional/ part of the directory lists sites based on where the company is physically located. There are some expections to this, but none apply in your case, so I won't muddy the waters by going into them.

The fundamental rule of Regional is simple: companies are listed on the basis of their physical presence.

We don't list sites in Regional/ based on where they market.

We don't list sites in Regional/ based upon where their customers are located.

We don't list sites in Regional/ based on where they want to be.

We don't list sites in Regional/ on the basis of how many different "product lines" they have.

Now, I must say this: because we are a human edited directory, we can and do make mistakes, and I want to thank you for pointing out some sites that may be listed incorrectly. I'm certain that an editor with appropriate editing rights will investigate each of the sites you mentioned and determine if they are correctly listed, or need to be moved. However we don't intentionally list sites incorrectly because other sites might be listed incorrectly. We prefer to list sites correctly and fix errors when we find them or they are pointed out to us.

Since your office is located in Paris Texas, that is where you are listed.

Now, with regards to multiple listings. The general rule is this: submit your site to the single best category. There is, however, an exception to this rule that probably does not apply to you, but is definitely worth mentioning. Here it is: many businesses are entitled to consideration for a listing in both the regional and topical parts of the directory. Topical are areas of the directory that are by subject rather than by physical presence. In my opinion, you are not eligible for consideration in a topical category -- and you are absolutely, positively not going to be considered in the eight categories that you seek. ODP simply does not work that way.

Why am I less than positive about this? Because in my opinion, you are what we would consider a travel agency/tour guide/operator and these kinds of companies only get a single listing in Regional and none in topical areas of the directory. The fact that you do not book airline travel is not relevant.

So, where does that leave us?

You are presently listed in Regional/ in Paris, Texas, and that seems to be the correct location.

You have kindly pointed out some sites that may not be correctly listed, and a qualified editor will address each of them on their own merits.

I believe, as does one of our most experienced editors, that your company falls under what ODP calls "travel agencies" and thus you are ineligible for a topical listing.

I hope this clarifies how ODP classifies sites.

I have read your response and I find it hard to believe that the other editors who listed the eight sites in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Mexico/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ are wrong.

Especially when you go to http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Brazil/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ and find the following four sites picked at random.

Acute Angling Address is P.O. Box 18, Califon, NJ 07830

Amazon Tours Address is 751 Canyon Drive Suite 110 :: Coppell, Texas 75019

Trek International Safaris Address is Trek International Safaris, Inc. P.O. Box 1305 Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32004

River Plate Anglers Address is 206 Ranch House Road - Kerrville - Texas 78028

I also found where several of my competitors have multiple listings

The purpose of a directory should be to list a site in a location that people doing searches for a service or product using key words can find them. By listing my site under Paris, Texas "only" does no one any good other than give me a listing that the search engines can find. Oh, by the way it is not listed under Paris Texas ; it is under Pittsburg Texas. Why is that?

When an individual is planning a peacock bass fishing trip he will make a search under peacock bass not Paris, Texas. By you refusing that individual the opportunity to find Rader's Fish and Game you may be depriving him of finding the best peacock bass fishing trip and at the same time Rader's Fish and Game the opportunity to have him as a client.

In my opinion you are destroying the whole principal of the worldwide web. By having my website up and running I am suppose to be as close to the person on the other side of the world as I am to my next door neighbor. You are not allowing me that opportunity in your directory. Paris Texas has a population of about 25,000 people. I did not spend thousands of dollars building a web site for just that 25,000 people to find.

If you want to provide a useful directory for owners of websites and at the same time for people in the world using key words to find what they are looking for; list the websites where they can reasonably be found.

I hope you will consider what I have said and maybe contact some of the other editors that listed the other sites under http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Mexico/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/ and http://dmoz.org/Regional/South_America/Brazil/Recreation_and_Sports/Fishing/. I still find it hard to believe that all 12 are wrong.

Thank you

Just a quick post to let you know that you are not being ignored.

I have asked a more senior editor to check into your request and determine if the advice I am giving you is valid, or off track.

Thanks in advacne for being patient.

Terry and Mitzi,

As far as I can tell, spectregunner has given you the correct information.

This forum's purpose is to give "status" on a particular site. It is not intended to be a soap box or venue for campaigning for additional listings. At the very top of this forum, Please see ATTENTION - Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING .

I have moved your site to Regional/North_America/United_States/Texas/Localities/P/Paris/Travel_and_Tourism .

If you'll read and pay particular attention to How is the ODP different from a search engine? , I'm sure you'll also read that ODP is a directory that is picked up and used by many search engines. We are not allowed to use specific keywords in a title or description. Plain fact is that we attempt to list content-rich sites in a plain, boring, and objective fashion, and hopefully in the correct categories.

>>>I have read your response and I find it hard to believe that the other editors who listed the eight sites in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...Sports/Fishing/ are wrong.<<<
Yep, they were wrong!

On the positive site, you are correct that all except one site belongs in the category. I have ask an editor with permissions in the category to move the sites to there respective appropriate categories.

I will also take a look at Brazil .

Thanks for pointing out the misplaced sites. As you can see we can always use an extra pair of eyes.
