Hi,

Could you re-check the status of http://www.the-if.com again please, it still does not appear to be registered.

Could I offer any assistance to speed up the process?

Kind Regards

The site has not yet been reviewed by an editor.

And there is nothing you can do that will speed up the process. It just takes time.

Thanks.

Not happy

Hi,

Could you re-check the status of http://www.the-if.com again please, it still does not appear to be registered.

There are a growing number of people, including me, who are getting more and more annoyed with the non-existent efforts of this volunteer service. What is the point of having an internet directory if it only points to links that were submitted in the early days of the DMOZ project.

The category I have submitted to, hasn't shown any real movement for years. I, like others have been polite, I've tried offering my services as an editor and we've all waited and waited and waited and waited.

If the volunteers aren't doing anything, then get rid of them. Give someone else a chance, because this system isn't working. 6 months to request how your submission is going? 2 years waiting for a submission? It's like some parallel universe where time has stood still.......

Yeah let's fire all the editors that don't review enough sites to meet your standards. And who, please tell me, is now going to do the work that those editors were doing [small though it might have been]. I don't see a line outside the door consisting of competent editors waiting to take over.

Editors are accepted based on the ability to edit according to guidelines, it's not a contest to add as many sites as possible.

If 3,000 editors review one site a month - then that is 36,000 sites done i a year. That's a valuable resource we are not going to get rid of.

And in case you missed the point, the ODP is not a service to list sites, it's a place where you suggest a site, yours or anyone else's.

We're sorry you feel that way. Our management practices are somewhat different than yours and, we feel, would likely conflict with the ethos of our editing community.

You are, of course, welcome to start a competing project staffed and managed along the lines you have succinctly laid out. You'd have a guaranteed monopoly over all aspects in which such a management profile would be advantageous, since the ODP won't compete with you.

Really? I've applied 4 times to be an editor now, and I haven't had a single response from DMOZ. I can manually code html and javascript, have an advanced understanding of the internet, have plenty of spare time and have been an news editor for BMC News corporation, is that competent enough for you?

You say you don't see a line of people waiting to be editors, that's funny, I do. In most of the threads I read on this forum people say, "how can I help", or, "can I become an editor to help out."

And the response....

And there is nothing you can do that will speed up the process. It just takes time.

Yeah let's fire all the editors that don't review enough sites to meet your standards.

And these are not MY standards, they are the standards derived from the customers. Those customers that use this service to search the internet. Because google gives so much credance to this site, that's pretty much the whole world's online community. They are the ones whose standards you should be adhering to, not mine.

How about a pleasant response, treating me as a customer, not as a problem, after all I've had to wait 6 months for this opportunity.

And forgive my tone, but anything less would result in......

And there is nothing you can do that will speed up the process. It just takes time.

which is a waste of everybody's time.
