Hello,

I was wondering if I could find out the status of my site: http://www.thejobspider.com

I submitted it a while back to the following category:

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Employment/Job_Search/

It has not been an excessive amount of time I'm just anxious.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the economy, this category gets a lot of submissions. Your site is awaiting review with several hundred others. I think it will likely be a while before it is reviewed. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

Just as an aside, I might not list it in its current state (though I'm highly unlikely to be the person who reviews it). You have only a small handful of job listings, which isn't exactly a lot of content as viewed by the ODP. On the bright side, you can work on increasing the number of postings while you're waiting.

Your submission of 25 Feb 2003 is still waiting, still with hundreds of others. Due to the large number of sites waiting in that category, if I were you, I'd probably wait several months to check again, but as the forum guidelines say, you should feel free to check again after at least one month.

Thanks for bumping the thread to the top - the forums are quite busy of late and sometimes we miss requests - sorry about that.

This category is extremely backlogged - are you sure that one of the subcategories doesn't fit your site well?

A submission to that category with the date you mention still awaits editorial review in that category.

No, I'm not 100% certain that's the correct category but many of my competitors are there... It looks right. If you have a suggested category I'd like to hear it.

On the category backlog: I've read in these forums that "some" of the volunteers review by date. Is there many ahead of me that way (looking for good news

If the category is "not quite right" the reviewing editor will move it as part of the editing process.

As to the other question...we no longer share any information about the size of submission pools as it accomplishes nothing but disappointing submitters and adding confusion.

Let's say, for example, that there were only one site, yours. Does that say anything about when it will get edited? Now imagine that your is one of 300. does it tell you when an editor will get to it?

There is simply no way to predict when an editor will go to a given category, and once there, the manner in which sites will be edited, or even the percentage of sites that will be looked at. some editors like to work in categories with large pools of unsubmitted, others like to knock off those pools with only one or two sites. Some do both.

I do have one other question though. I'd be willing to bet that when the site was new and I first submitted it to DMOZ at the beginning of last year, the site description I wrote was must likely very poor. Since then the site has grown tremendously, became fairly popular, and I've concreted it's direction. I keep thinking that maybe I am not getting included because it was such a poorly written description and the editor would need to rewrite a new one. Does it make sense for me to resubmit with a better written description like "A free employment resource site. Offering: online job searching, job alerts, resume posting, and free job posting."?? I realize that this would overwrite my first submission but I've read some editors may put the site in the "I'll look at it later" basket because the description needs soo much work. I almost want to slap myself for even thinking it would be better to resubmit when I've waited this long but I figure I should at least ask the question.

So I guess my question is: Should I slap myself

I'm afraid it depends on the editor. Some editors DO sort by date, and look at the oldest submissions first, so that resubmitting would increase the time required for that editor to review your site. Some editors look first at the sites with good descriptions, so that resubmitting would reduce the time for that editor to review your site. Some do different things at different times, or use some other criterion to decide which sites to review first.

I can't make a recommendation.

I haven't made a decision but I'm leaning towards not touching the submission. I guess I'm hoping the editor will take pity on me when looking at the submission date (I guess I'm also assuming that the editor will find my site a valuable resource addition!

).

At least now I can feel more comfortable that its not my description that is holding me back...
