Hello,

Our site maktoob.com is listed under

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_East/Lebanon/Business_and_Economy/Computers_and_Internet/E-mail/

yet it has nothing to do with Lebanon or business in the middle east. It is a purely consumer community portal. I have submitted twice in the last 3 months to have it removed from this category but to no avail. I tried to find the editor, who I could only find 4 levels above this subcategory.......his userid is "cossak" , and I tried to contact 3 times but also no reply. I need to get this issue resolved as it is negatively affecting our listings in many search engines.

OUr site is listed also under an arabic subcategory which is correct:

http://dmoz.org/World/Arabic/حاسوب/إنترنت/

and it should only be under this and not under the lebanon one.

Thanks
Hussam

hello gboisseau,

I appreciate the quick response. I have one small problem. Alexa and google categorize by language, and we are not appearing under arabic, although we exist under and arabic category on Dmoz in addition to the current category that you placed us in. But my reasoning is that these sites are just picking us up under the english categories. So ideally i would like it to be removed from http://dmoz.org/Regional/Middle_Eas...s_and_Internet/ which will just leave it under
Top: World: Arabic:إقليمـي
which is ideal for us.

Sorry for the trouble and thank you som much in advance.

It appears that editors are finding English content on the site, and listing it correctly in an English language category.

Thanks......well our site is an arabic site geared towards the arab world, but has some bilingual content. We do have some minimal content in Engliosh, but the focus and thrust is all in arabic. Either way, it should only go under the Top:Regional:Arabic:etc...etc category tree and not any english one.

Thanks

gboisseau]Your site has been updated and is in: [url said:

Hello Skunkcityman,

Hope all is well. I just wanted to confirm that Maktoob is removed from this category since it is English. And that our site remains in the arabic categories that it is currently in, so that search engines pick it up as an arabic site only. We just have a simple english interface to allow people to see the basic layout, but the thrust of the site is in Arabic.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Maktoob is still in an English category!

Hello,

Our site is still listed under an english category...called
Top: Regional: Middle East: Jordan: Business and Economy: Computers and Internet

It is key for us to be only listed in the arabic categories that we are currently in. Could you please remove us from this category.

Our site is an Arabic site that caters 98% to arabic readers.

Please this is very important for us.

You are welcome to take that up with Alexa and Google. But this is simply not the place to discuss that, and we are not the people do discuss it with.

>But my reasoning is that these sites are just picking us up under the english categories.

That reasoning is certainly invalid, and I'd guess it's almost certainly wrong. I do not believe that either Google or Alexa have ever used, or will ever use, the ODP data to classify sites by language.

But whether they do or whether they don't, WE are building a directory -- what the search engines do with it is something that really ought not to matter to us.

I should mention, we neither add nor delete sites because webmasters (or people claiming to be webmasters) request it. We review sites -- sometimes suggested sites -- and take what action seems appropriate based on the ODP guidelines.
