I wouldn't even bother with dmoz. They were great back in 97 and had a great start but it went down hill from there. The best you can do is to promote the site yourself. Go to the yahoo directory and look for search engines. Submit your site manually. Make your keywords match your site description & title and hope for the best. Make sure that your site has a link or button exchange. The more links from your site to others, the better. If you can, throw in a top list. Make the titles of your pages the title of what people would search for such as "American Home Made Recipes".

The site suggestion isn't in that category, and hasn't been reviewed by an editor. I'd suggest resubmitting, and checking again in a month to be sure it got in.

For SERP perp-oises, what boneyard says is not all false. The ODP is not and has never been a substitute for serious website promotion; and if you are looking for guaranteed immediate results, you'll need to look elsewhere. Spend the time to submit (as you say you've done), check to make sure the suggestion got in (as you're doing now), and take 265.240 of the next 365.245 days doing something else productive.

The ODP submittal keeps a site from being overlooked when an editor is working on its topic, and guarantees that EVENTUALLY some editor will look at it, but that's all. (Think of it as a way for you to help the project, not a way for you to obligate anyone to help you, and you'll be able to maintain a much more realistic and objective view of it.)
