The queue at the top level of that category is quite large as many people submit to the top rather than search for an appropriate subcategory. I do not see your site there, and as there are several subcats you may have submitted to I am not going to take the time to try to load those queues to check for your site. Looking at your site, I wonder if http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Supplies/ or http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Dogs/ isn't a better category. Is it possible that is where you submitted your site? I can tell you it is not in the top level queue, nor has it been deleted or listed elsewhere.

[Edited] Kokopeli beat me, but I'll keep my suggestion.[/Edited]

It looks to me like the submission didn't get through, and I'd suggest resubmitting to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Dogs/Containment_Systems, which looks like the most specific applicable category to me (doors, gates, and fences are all types of containment systems in my book). As a bonus, I'll mention that there are fewer than a handful of sites waiting for review there, compared to hundreds in the category where you thought you had submitted.

Thank you both for responding so quickly. I did make sure that when I submitted that I wrote down the appropriate category. In addition, the dmoz site did return a confirmation page saying that my site submission was received.

I will, however, take your advice and re-submit in a subcategory.

Thanks again,

Richard

I looked at the category you had recommended http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Dogs/Containment_Systems. This category seems mostly for "containment systems" albeit invisible fencing which may be too narrow.

The categories suggested from kokopeli (http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Supplies/ or http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Dogs/ ) seem more appropriate but, do you happen to know how many sites are waiting for review in these categories?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

The number of sites pending review in a given category isn't really important. What's important is the appropriate placement of a site within the directory.

You are absolutely right - But since my original submission seems to have been lost in the shuffle and their have been 3 categories suggested to me as viable categories for my site, I thought It would be ok to ask which category would have less of a que?

The reason several categories were suggested is that neither kokopeli nor I did an in-depth review of your site -- that's the job of the submitter and of the reviewing editor. You should look at the contents of your site and decide what is the single most appropriate category, and submit there. Once.

The number of sites waiting for review in a given category is largely irrelevant. If you submit to the wrong category, an editor will just send it to the correct one, where it will wait in the same unreviewed pool as if you had submitted there in the first place. You can't jump the line by submitting to an inappropriate category -- the only thing that is likely to happen is that you actually increase your wait if it takes a long time to be moved to the correct category.

[Added] I noticed that you offer gates (containment), invisible fencing (containment), and doors (arguably containment of a fashion, keeping the wrong kinds of animals out). I'd still say the focus of your site is containment, but I'm not an expert in that category. There are also at least 2 other sites that offer pet doors in the Containment_Systems category.[/Added]

lachenm and I posted at roughly the same time, so neither of us saw what the other wrote until our posts appeared. To be honest, I think that in addition to his being more specific than mine--he found the exact area where your site (in my opinion) belongs and my suggestions were too general. I just looked a little closer at your site and those in that category and it looks like that would be the most appropriate placement.

Your submission from 18/Apr/2003 13:02:54 MDT was waiting in Supplies, but I think it is likely your site would just wait its turn to be reviewed and it will then get sent to the more appropriate category of containment systems where it would sit again. Because another editor in addition to me compared the content to that listed in the subcategory of containment, I have moved your submission there. As a result, your updated status is that it is waiting in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Dogs/Containment_Systems/ with a handful of other sites. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
