Huh?

Sorry mate, don't understand. Thanks anyway.

I re-read the FAQs and don't see anything there about clickable links.

Cheers

John

Did I get it right now?

No but drmike did - the instructions at the top of where all the threads are about format of posts entitled "Important: ATTENTION - Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING"

Received and awaiting review by an editor. You can check back here in the same thread in 6 months if you don't see it listed by then. Thanks.

While we're at it, http://www.top-search-engine-position.co.uk/ has been rejected, sorry.

http://www.wakefield-security.com/ is waiting in http://dmoz.com/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Industries/Security/ too - what's your connection there?

No sign of either of the snowycats - have you suggested them anywhere?

OK John but you need to read the guidelines on the form when you suggest a site very carefully. Particularly the bit about suggesting multiple related sites (it is prohibited and the penalties can be severe - exclusion of *all* related sites).

Do you look after Wakefield Security websites or (as one of your sites implies) is it still your company despite retirement?

I cannot predict the outcome of the reviews that will eventually be undertaken on the sites currently waiting. I suspect neither will be accepted as they form part of a network of related sites, we would only list one of that network, the one that seems to cover the broadest range. Which one is the question. snowycats.com seems to link through to all the others so probably stands the best chance. Though it might possibly fall foul of the suggest an url guidelines, when it is ready submit the .com site, not the .co.uk version. Use this thread to get a status check on it so we can see them all in the same place. Editors will decide whether there is sufficient distinct content on either of the two in the system to list those independently but don't hold your breath - check again here on those in 6 months.

Hello Oneeye

Thanks for advice. I get it now. The website needs to only have one URL, not expand over several.

I guess I had better do something about that.

I am retired from Wakefield Security. No connection now but the new owners use my name, and I give advice when needed.

I look after their websites and also run my own which is Snowycat. The two are unrelated except that we freely advertise each other.

If my name is mentioned in the Wakefield website it's probably something to do with me getting an industry award when I was MD.

Thanks again

John

John, check your own sites, one of them says John has retired...but his company... - I would interpret this as meaning it is still yours and therefore part of the network of related sites.

You can expand over several if it suits your purposes but we will only list one site. Arrange your online presence to suit your needs not ours, a DMOZ listing will make very little difference to your business and listings are not guaranteed anyway - those that are listed could have been waiting years too.

Hello Oneeye

I see what you mean. Can be construed that I am still in command.

As to the difference that a DMOZ listing might make, I was under the impression that a listing was for the benefit of the masses who need a reliable source of information. I agree that the company would get small benefit especially as it is so easily found in all major search engines.

As to the first mistake I apparently made, I have done a painstaking search in the forum instructions for a reference to clickable links, and I still do not see any guidance that shows me what to avoid in that respect. If you would be good enough to quote the exact passage I would be grateful.

Since you mentioned some other websites that I control, would it be possible to check the status of www.cctv-data-protection.info please?

Kind regards

John

Re my previous comments about not being able to understand the submission rules. I now know what you were referring to having found the correct guidelines.

I think that the entrance to the forum is confusing because you have two places to look for "Posting Guidelines".

Since you guys were making me feel like a dummy for not following your rules, I feel it should be said that your second reference to guidelines, i.e. "ATTENTION - Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING" could be reworded to say "Forum special instructions" or something, so that the likes of me will not ignore the message because we have already read the guidelines. You should not have two separate sections with the same name.

In fact, the first person who told me I was doing it wrong actually said I should read the FAQ which is another section.

Now I know what to do, I shall endeavour to get it right in future.

Kind Regards

John

John:

I understand what you are saying with regards to incorrect instructions.

The unfortunate thing is that the first reply you received was not from an editor, but from a fellow member (probably just trying to be helpful, it is a huge temptation).
