I submitted a request to update my url's description several weeks ago... just wondering if the request has been received and/or what the status of the change is. Thank you!

Good lawd! Since I can't even remember the one from from 2 1/2 years ago, sure, get rid of it.

Also: I just learned on this forum how to go about changing the directory location of my listing (I submit another update request, correct?). Is there any way to squeak that change in with the request you're looking at, or should I send a whole new request that just asks for the directory change?
Thanks so much for your help.

Ok, I've sent a new request in; thanks for your advice. Out of curiosity: how long does an update usually take (not 2 1/2 years, I hope! ;))?

Thanks again for your time and help!

The two duplicates are now gone :). Thanks.

It's difficult to say how long they will take; it basically depends when an editor comes along and does them. That could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year... 2 1/2 years is pretty extreme though.

By submitting another request since the 2.5 year-old one was probably every bit as outdated as the listing is now, am I now bumped back to the end of the review queue (meaning I have to wait another 2+ years)? It'd be nice if I could somehow maintain my place in line, or maybe get an editor's attention since I've waited abnormally long for a simple change. (I know, I know, DMOZ is a volunteer-run org that gets to its workload... well, when it gets to it. But DMOZ also seems to pride itself on providing accurate information, and right now, it's not, in my case.)
Just curious... Thanks!

However there IS no review "queue" - sites are reviewed in whatever order the editor chooses. So your statement is based on a false assumption, I'm afraid.

Checking on www.khate.org' s update status again...

And my annoying "just curious" question du jour: if a category has no current editor... who will do this update? (Neither my current category nor the one I'm trying to move to seem to have a designated editor.) Are there some general editors who poke about and edit any and all categories?
Just curious.

Thanks!

Sorry I see no change yet.

As far as editors, yes there are hundreds of editors who can edit anywhere. And any named editor in the category above "your" category and the one above that - all the way to top top level can edit there - so that give about another ten.

Whether any of those editors actually edit there is another question - which we can't answer - it's up to them - I guess they will if they feel like it.

An update request was denied a few weeks ago. I can't tell if there are any more, but the editor didn't intend to leave any.

I'm curious whether you were aware that you're listed in both [cat=Arts/Music/Styles/Rock/Industrial/Bands_and_Artists/K/]Industrial (K)[/cat] and [cat=Arts/Music/Styles/Electronica/Bands_and_Artists/K/]Electronica (K)[/cat] categories.

And you might consider suggesting your site to [cat=Regional/North_America/United_States/Virginia/Localities/N/Newport_News/Arts_and_Entertainment/Music/]Newport News: Arts and Entertainment: Music[/cat].

Hm, your update request was denied in February. Maybe the wording did not seem appropriate to the editor. :-(

categories.

Yep, I'm well aware; and genre-wise, I don't belong in either of them! The electronica category I submitted myself three years ago (when I was making electronica); the industrial got added by that section's editor at the time. That's why I've been trying to get changed to just the one (correct) category; I don't make either industrial or electronic music anymore.

Thanks for the advice; I'd rather be in a category sorted by genre than locale, though. I think I'd get better exposure there since folks looking for music they like tend to browse by style vs. location. (And no one outside of Missy Elliot fans have heard of Newport News!)

Thanks for your help and quick response.

Honestly, it's been so damn long since I submitted my attempt to get my listing change, I don't remember the exact wording. I'm sure I followed the DMOZ guidelines to the letter, though...? Knowing how long it can take to get a change made, I wouldn't jeopardize it with some bad copy.

Thanks for the update, though. Is there any point in re-submitting yet again, or am I wasting my time?

You may resubmit. It is more likely that the category change will soon occur if the editor checking your request can easily see from your site which style of music you're now making.

I wanted to clarify that suggesting to or listing in the correct Regional category will not hurt your Arts listing. (Normally, I would say the listings are independent, but multiple suggestions to incorrect Regional categories might hurt your Arts listing. We have a number of businesses where their multiple submission to inappropriate Regional categories may have delayed their Business listing.)
