Status of www.101phones.com

We were recently removed from DMOZ under "Business/Telecommunications/Equipment/Suppliers/Hardware_Accessories/Communications_Products" for the second time. I have submitted a relisting under the category "Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Communications/Home_and_Office_Phones/". Could somebody please inform me as to why we were removed again from DMOZ, and the site submission status under the new category? Thanks!

The reason is that several different editors have found that your site contains a significant amount of non-unique content. The directory users aren't served by finding the same content on many different sites, and in Shopping the standards are set pretty high as far as I understand (I do not edit in there myself.) I'm sorry, but your site is not listable anywhere in the ODP in its current form. (The last review took place a few days ago according to the logs.)

I humbly disagree with your opinion about our lack of "unique" content on our website. We provide one of the HIGHEST selection of telecommunication products on the Internet, way more than the other sites that are listed on DMOZ under the same category. Not only do we sell regular corded and cordless phones, we also sell hearing-impaired and tty phones for the elderly and disabled. All of our product information are hand-written by our product specialists team. We offer telecommunication products by over 30 different manufacturers, and from what I've noticed from the other websites listed under the same category, most of them don't even compare. Adding more insult to injury, there's one site listed under the directory (you should be able to figure out which one) thats just a web portal to a bunch of e-pilot search engine sites that has almost nothing to do with home & office phones! How is it possible that we have less "unique" content than a site that links you to different sites that are contain virtually no relevant content?

Nevertheless, I am not asking for you guys to get us back on DMOZ immediately even though our business has dropped significantly because of it. All I'm asking for is a FAIR assessment relative to the other sites that are in the same directory. In my honest opinion, disregarding the fact that I'm helping my friend out with this problem, I truly believe that 101Phones.com is one of the best suited sites under that category. We even provide a page showing all the manufacturer's phone numbers, and in some cases we also provide the actual product brochure. If any of you editors disagree, please let us know why that is so, so we can improve on our site and making it suitable for DMOZ.

Thank you all for your help!

Yes... and back then we were able to get ourselves relisted on DMOZ courtesy of "dandaman". This is the 2nd time that we've been removed without being given any legitimate reason besides "our site has no unique content" even though our site offers more "unique" content than most of the other sites that are listed under that category.

Ummm, I don't know any way to say this more politely, so I'll just come out and say it: No, you weren't.

The referenced thread was from August, 2003. Your site has not been listed since May, 2003, and it is not going to be listed in its present form.

If you know of other listed sites that are not providing unique content, you may report them by using the "Update URL" form and noting their affiliations. However, pointing to other sites that violate our guidelines will not affect the decision about your site in any way.

For clarification purposes, by "courtesy", I meant his help in talking with you guys on this forum.

Just to clarify my post as well, by "No, you weren't", I meant that your site was not relisted as a result of that thread. Nor will it be. I'm not sure why you thought it was. Perhaps you were looking at a downstream user of ODP data that didn't have a current version of the directory, instead of looking directly at http://dmoz.org/ ?

In other words, this is not the second time your site was removed. According to our logs, it was removed once in May, and since then we have declined to re-list it.

[Added] Nea obviously types faster than I do, but I'll leave the clarification anyhow. :) [/Added]
