I am very confused (didn't know how to put in the confused face) imagine it here(). Through my web site/store provider they suggest we use Submitnet to submit our sites to search engines and directories. I have been paying Submitnet for over a year now and just found out that they are using automatic submissions, which I understand now is a big NO-NO with DMOZ. You don't have my site listed anywhere and I don't know what category they may have submitted to. This is my site http://www.aridsolutionsinc.com. I could not get the hyperlink icon on this thread page to work so I pasted in the address from my home page. http://www.aridsolutionsinc.com/page/page/522317.htm Because it is a store I assume it would go in Shopping and then Home and Garden.
My rankings have been terrible at best yet my site is clean and easy to use. I get compliments. Most of my visitors are coming from Google Adwords and word of mouth. I don't like having to use Adwords because they can be abused by competitors. I started my business to help with our country's fresh water crisis but now I am having my own business crisis.

Could you tell me how to fix this mess. I don't want to re-submit until I know more. I don't want to make things worse. thank you. I am sorry the link probably won't work. Here is my email also, lisa@aridsolutionsinc.com I am somewhat of a newbie perhaps I did something wrong. Thank you, Lisa P.S. I previewed the post, the links work!

I see no record of any editor activty, but without knowing the exact category we cannot accurately check for the site having been submitted

Spend some time and choose the best single place in Shopping, and use http://www.aridsolutionsinc.com/ when suggesting your site. Possibly http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Garden_Accessories/Irrigation/ - but you should make the decision.

Make sure to write down exactly which category and you may ask again in this thread one month after submitting

You may also make a second submission to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Mexico/Localities/T/Tijeras/ - it may be allowed there also.

Thank you. I take it the automatic submissions have/are ignored and me personally submitting now would not be considered spam? Thank you again, my hope has been restored. Lisa

I finally got a response from Submitnet as to what category they submitted my site to:

"Thank you for your inquiry. The directory you are being submited to in DMOZ is Business/Industrial_Goods_and_Services/Fluid_and_Gas_Control/Tanks/ ."

I think this is ridiculous for them to do that category. I submitted today under the category
http://dmoz.org/Shopping:Home and Garden:Garden Accessories:Irrigation
and
http://dmoz.org/Regional: North Anerica:United Statess: New Mexico:Business and Economy:Shopping

This after your suggestions.

Is there something I need to do to undo what Submitnet did. I don't want them causing me anymore problems. Thanks! Lisa

After looking over the category choices I thought New Mexico Shopping fit better for my online business. I don't have an actual location in Tijeras, I work out of my home. I outsource the actual manufacturing of the rain barrels. They are not made in my garage. However, statewide people love finding out that I am a NM resident helping with the water issue. Many buy from my store just for that reason. They have told me they have searched online for NM businesses selling rain barrels. So that was my reasoning but I am a newbie here and if you have info to share with me that will help please do!. I got screwed over by Submitnet and have lost time in getting the word out about my water conservation store so whatever can be done to get me listed and properly I will do. Thanks for asking me about this. Lisa

We try to give you the best advice we can in this forum. It's frustrating when people ignore it, and place the site in the wrong category, where it will require more work from an editor to move it back to the right place.

catagory for www.aridsolutionsinc.com

Bobrat, I am sorry if you thought I ignored your suggestions. I did use your exact suggestion for http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home and Garden accessories:Irrigation.

I guess I don't understand what the editors are looking at or for. Between the two- http://dmoz.org?Regional/North Amer...ties/T/Tijeras?
and http://Regional/North America...New Mexico:Business and Economy:Shopping.

If the editor's focus is exact location, Tijeras works, if the focus is reaching to the whole state (since I don't have a bricks and mortar store in Tijeras) because people in the state are looking for rain barrels, I would have thought the other might be better. Again, I am new at this and you know better than I what works.

Either way it sure works better than the catagory Submitnet had it in. Again, I didn't mean to cause any frustration. In fact I am trying to get this to go as smoothly as possible due to over a year of being jerked around by Submitnet.
Thank you for your time ,
Lisa

Thank you for your input. I think a regional listing is in order. People here in NM really like know one of their own is busy trying to help the state. I live and work out of Tijeras, NM and there is one (at this time) store in Albuquerque that carries my rain barrels. I also have worked with the local powers that be to get rebates for residents, and city ordinances changed to allow xeriscaping and I volunteer at water conservation educational events. Many local people find me online searching for rain barrels in NM, they have told me this. Thanks again! Lisa

Lisa although I am a newbie editor, I edit in Regional. Regional listings are never listed according to where you market. They are listed according to where you are located. You could only be listed at the state level if you had locations in many different parts of the state. I do not edit in that area. I have not reviewed the site. But I did look at your contact information. Although you do not actually have a storefront, it does seem to state a business presence in Tijeras, NM. So if you are eligible for a listing in Regional, it would have to be the category bobrat gave you. Hope this helps a little.

Okay! That makes sense. Sorry if I seem a little slow here. This is all new to me.
So, do I need to do anything to change the submission catagory or should I leave it be and beg for forgiveness of the editor for what ever extra work is required to change/fix the regional listing? Thanks everybody for your patience! Lisa

Submission of www.aridsolutionsinc.com

One month ago was my site's actual submission date. I had inquired about its status because I thought Submitnet had done it. Long story. So this is my one month since submission status inquiry. Could someone please tell me the status of www.aridsolutionsinc.com ? It was subimitted to catagories:
http://www.dmoz.com/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Garden_Accessories/Irrigation/ and
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Mexico/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/

It was suggested in earlier replies that it may apply to regional also.

Thank you! Lisa
