Hello, I've been trying to submit my web site to the DMOZ directory for over a year now, each time waiting for 3 months to pass by between each re-submission. However, to date, and after reviewing all the DMOZ guidelines, the site is still not listed. I just found out about this forum and I hope somebody will be able to help me.

Name of the Site: http://www.bidalaska.com

I tried to get the site listed in the following category:

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Auctions/

However, since I never got any response, today I decided to try to submit to:

http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Alaska/Business_and_Economy/Classifieds/

Can an editor give me some advice or tell me what is happening?

Thanks for your assistance....

Morgan :)

RE: BidAlaska.com Status

Bobrat, thanks for your quick answer.

When you say "patience", what do you have in mind in term of timeframe? I don't want to re-post a status thread and feel like I harass anybody. Also, is it fair practice to have the site listed in 2 categories at the same time? Or should I just select one?

I appreciate your assistance. :)

You can ask again in THIS thread after at least a month has passed.

Although in most cases a site can only be listed in one category, on exception is that a site can be listed in one non_Regional and one Regional [if it qualifies for each one] - but each category is evaluated separately. I did a quick 3 second look, and I'm not that sure you would be allowed in Regional, the editor there however will decide.

I know a lot of Shopping/Auction sites go past me, but I don't review them. I just have the impression there are a lot of them, and it might take a long while to get reviewed there.

RE: BidAlaska.com Status

Alrighty, I will look again in one month and post in this thread if necessary.

As for your concern about being Regional, our vision since the start has been to offer online auctions and classifieds for people living in Alaska only. That's actually our main motive for the site. What do you think is missing that would make it more regional? Any advice or feedback is welcomed.

Thanks again,

Morgan

Regional has nothing to do with your market and who you sell to, it's where your business is, and wheter it is considerd to have a business presense.

RE: BidAlaska.com Status

Alrighty, fair enough, thanks for the quick response again.

To answer your question, we, our business, and the site, are all located in Anchorage, Alaska. Then, my question to you...will I get a notification if the site fails to meet the regional criteria? In such situation, I'd like to know how to make it more regional and how to make it more obvious to the editor reviewing the application...

Thanks for your help.

No notification are given as a rule. Sometime an editor might, but it's not normal.

Ok, I will wait one month and in the meantime, cross my fingers and pray the Gods of DMOZ. ;)

Thanks for all your help, I'm glad I found you and the forum, definitely very helpful.

The thing about regional as opposed to the other parts of the directory is that regional is all about where a company is located. Markets, customer base, scope of business, etc., are all much much relevant than the ability of someone in a given locality to knock on the door, or apply for a job, or admire the holiday lights your multi-story office complex as they drive by on a snowy afternoon.

RE: BidAlaska.com Submission Status

Thanks for the additional details!
We should be good though, since our business is located in Alaska and is mostly for Alaskan people. :)

Still no listing?

Bobrat advised me to wait for one month to check again on my listing but it's been a month and a half, and I'm worried my site is not being indexed again. Can any editor gives me an update?

Thanks so much for your assistance and the great site.

Nothing new here, the site is still awaiting review in both categories. Please note that our forum rules have changed (read the announcement) and we now ask to wait at least six months between status update requests. Thanks.

BidAlaska.com Status?

I was wondering if anybody could give me an update on my site submission to DMOZ. The site is BidAlaska.com and probably assigned to 2 categories.
A little bit of history:
I was told in April to wait for one month to check again.
I was told in June to wait for 6 months from the April's post to ask again.
We are now in October, but dont want to get anybody upset, I'm just curious about my site status.

Thanks for your help.

Another 6 months? How long does it usually take? I started initially to try to list the site in 2003!

Jim didn't say that it would take another 6 months before the site will be reviewed. He said that you can do another status check in 6 months. A status check does not equal a review. It could take longer than 6 months for the review or it could happen in 6 seconds. There's no way of knowing when the review will happen, only that it will eventually happen.

Hello - First time submitted?

Hello,

I was wondering if an editor would be kind enough to tell me when was the first time we submitted Bidalaska.com to the dmoz directory. I cannot find that information at all.

Thanks for the help.
