Hi,I am so glad to have found this forum. I have been submiting my site www.bonnybabies.com to the category http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Children/Baby/Varied_Merchandise/B/
since January 2003 and have yet to be listed or received any communication. There doesn't seem to be an editor for this category, is that why it has taken so long? My site has lots of original content and I am adding new products and info all of the time. I am a new site that has gotten great traffic, but I would really like to be included in the DMOZ. Please let me know my status. I would greatly appreciate it!

The editor that reviewed it felt that just a few too many of your pages said nothing but "coming soon". We like to see sites finished before we list them.

When all of your "coming soon" pages are gone, re-submit.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate your help! However, wwww.bonnybabies.com is finished and was finished before I submitted it to DMOZ. However,I think that every site that is worth its salt is never truly "finished." New prducts and information become available all of the time. I do constantly add new products after testing them to make sure that I feel they are practical for parents. There are several pages that do say content coming soon. Those pages were just buttons that I had the webmaster put on to reserve space for future products. I don't have any immediate plans for those categories, but if I come across a great product that fits into them I was planning on adding it then. Would it be better for me to just get rid of those pages and add them again in the future if they are needed?

There are actually only 3 pages out of over 30 that say coming soon. They are "for moms only" "natural baby care"
& "unique toys & gifts."

Please advise me on what you think it would be best for me to do.

Have you seen my site?

Thanks again!
Shannon:)

This is in response to the new thread you started (in the future, please stay within this thread).

The editor viewed it again at the end of may and found it to not be complete. I did a random check of six the eight product categories and found areas like this one: http://www.bonnybabies.com/colic-calmers.htm. That page has products, and no prices or ordering instructions. In order to qualify for shopping a site must have prices and a way to order. http://www.bonnybabies.com/toysandgifts.htm is "coming soon". http://www.bonnybabies.com/bath.htm is also "coming soon". Out of the six pages I randomly chose, 50% do not have shopping content (are incomplete by having no prices or are coming soon). In order to list your site it must have more complete content than is currently there. Please resubmit when you have finished your site.

Thank you for your response I will stay within this thread. I understand that now. Did you see the post I left in response to the last editor's post? Maybe that would explain things a bit better for you, because my site is finished, but I am always adding new stuff.

Here it is:

As far as Colic calmers not having a cart button, the product is out of stock and will not be available until July so I took the cart away. The Miracle blanket was just added last night and the webmaster is not finished with that cart button yet.

It seems that the only way that might site will ever be "finished" according to DMOZ is to never ad new products or have them go out of stock. I am frustrated now, because I don't know what to do to get accepted.

Please advise me on what you think it would be best for me to do.

PS. I have 10 great items that are currently for sale with cart buttons. I am not a baby super store, I only sell innovative items that I test first myself.

Thanks again!
Shannon:)

What I was trying to say is that I would have drawn the same conclusion as the editor who reviewed your site. From the main page, you have 9 page links (not 30) to actual products. What I am saying is that by going to 6 of those 9 pages, I found 50% that either had products with no way to buy them or the area said "coming soon". It is unlikely you will find an editor who is going to hit every single link from each of those 9 pages to get to the 30 pages of content you say you have. I'm not seeing 30 pages, I am seeing the main 9. If those had content, I would likely look further but as it stands there is no point of digging further when what I am seeing is already incomplete.

I understand you are working on this site, and I can see that it has potential. From what I see right now, it is just too incomplete to list. I am actually the listed editor at the top of that category (Shopping/Children) and I wouldn't have listed the site with the current content as it is either. What is in your benefit is the editor who evaluated your site is very active in that area, and will likely process it fast if you finish those problem areas in the future. I believe that the section with the merchandise you state is out of stock wouldn't have weighed heavily if the other product categories hadn't led to a "coming soon" message. If someone enters your site from those main links on the front page they will see what we saw, and that was the reason for denial. Sorry, but from and ODP standpoint I don't see how the decision could have been different.

Thanks for your help Kokopeli. I understand what you are saying. I think I will just have my webmaster remove those empty categories that I am not using right now and add them later when/if I find appropriate products for them. As far as the items that are backordered or out of stock I guess it would have just been better to leave their carts up and to notate that they were on back order. I had just removed the carts to make it "idiot proof so no one would order them anyway.

Once she finishes that I will resubmit. Can you just tell me one more thing please. Do you feel that I have chosen he right category to submit to?

Thanks again for all of your advice, I wish I had found this forum sooner.

Best wishes,
Shannon:)

I do think it is the correct category <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> for you (varied merchandise). When you resubmit, I would make a quick note in the description that some changes were made--just so that editor doesn't think it is a duplicate since she reviewed the site two different times in May. She would likely look close anyway, but just to be safe if you resubmit in the near future I would just say something like "***coming soon errors corrected" at either the beginning or end of your description. Good luck <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Continued from here.

It was reviewed again, and found to still be incomplete and was denied.

While randomly surfing I found a 404 error at http://www.bonnybabies.com/podeegiftset.htm
http://www.bonnybabies.com/podee-pedia-dose.htm

Under some products the page is blank:
http://www.bonnybabies.com/ceramic-name-plates.htm
http://www.bonnybabies.com/ceramic-name-tiles.htm
http://www.bonnybabies.com/baby-christmas-tiles.htm

I'm only speculating, I am not the person who reviewed your site but that may be part of the reason.

Thanks again. This is so frustrating though. All of those links are new items I am adding. I am a work at home mom and so is my webmaster. We normally create a url, then add the photo and then add the cart button and description one by one. I spend alot of time creating my descriptions and can't move very fast due to working with my 2 kids at home and having to process and pack my orders. Any suggestions on what I should do? I believe that I have a very good site. I have a high ranking on alexa and a 4/10 on google and get alot of traffic. I really want to be part of DMOZ though and have been trying all year. Please tell me whatyou think I should do.
Thanks,
Shannon

Shannon, I looked at the editor notes and incorrectly read the date. I'm not sure who looked at your site since it wasn't waiting for review in that category at all. The last denial took place in May. I searched from /Baby down and it isn't pending anywhere for anyone to have visted it. I went ahead and added it to the unreviewed for a new evaluation. Sorry about that. I don't know if the previous issues will come back again. Running into a lot of 404 errors is a cause for denial. I do see you've cleaned up a lot of the "coming soon" issues. It is up to the editor to determine if a site has content or not and if errors are found what and how many there are. It is now pending in that area with a handful of other sites for review so there is no need to resubmit.

You had also asked how I found your previous thread, I did so by searching for bonnybabies.com :)

Wow, thanks for clearing that up for me! As we speak the kids are asleep and I have just finished descriptions for the pediadose and the podee gift set. Hopefully my webmaster can fix that stuff for me ASAP.

It's weird that you can't find my latest submission though. An editor did visit my site yesterday so that's what prompted me to inquire.

Anyway, you are always a terrific help. Thanks for devoting your time to all of us "poor lost souls" :)

Hi Shannon - You'll be happy to know that your site is now in the directory. :) I added it just a few minutes ago. I can tell that you have been working very hard on your site. It has greatly improved since first submitted earlier this year.

My problem was with all the links that had "coming soon" pages. I'm glad you decided to have your webmaster remove them.

I did visit your site yesterday when I was glancing over my unreviewed. I sometimes quickly look at sites that I know have previously been submitted. Your title and description needed some work to comply with our guidelines and I didn't have time then. In fact I visited it earlier this evening also but my grandson suddenly needed my full attention, which I'm sure you'll understand!! ;)

If you have any questions, on my profile page, there's a link to contact me. Please feel free to do so. Good luck on your site.
